81SCp - can you post a picture of the wheel taken from the side showing the hub?

Your wheel looks identical to the 964RS wheel listed on the website referenced earlier in this thread -

Sorry, I have been away from the board for a couple of days.

Here are some shots of the lower end of the wheel (adapter). The caliper reads 1.6" and the back side of the pad has four (4) "clips" that snap inside the opening.

The dealer, I hope it's okay to post the name here, was Sunset Imports. I was dealing with Bob, the parts manager. I have his email address if someone wants it, but it can be found on their webpage. I told him that there was several people that may want to contact him regarding this wheel.

The wheel is a one piece leather wrapped, original 930 sport wheel.

Here is a pic of a 930SE cab. The pic has sufficient resolution that if you download the image and then zoom it on your desktop, it will give you an idea of the 930S wheel. The later factory slants(after '86) used the four spoke wheel with a crest inlay on the right side of the horn pad.

Hmm, this was an interesting thread.

The one thing I am still trying to figure out is can I get an embossed horn cover for my existing 930 wheel? I hate the gold, but would love to keep that $380 in my pocket.

Maybe a black magic marker and I will just tell everyone it is embossed?

81SCp 02-24-2004 03:15 PM

seriously - I know it was too much to pay for that wheel. But, when I was looking around the one without the embossed horn pad was $338.00 from Pelican and someone else was selling the same wheel I have for $440.95 plus shipping. So I just figured, hey! $380 is right in the middle and I'll only buy one wheel and it will be the one that I want.

believe me, I almost went a different route several times.

Beautiful wheel. Is it black? Looks grey in the pix..but probably just the light. What is the diameter?

So where do I get the black wheel with the embossed horn pad?

81SCp 07-08-2004 04:50 PM

73911s -

I got mine from the local dealer - that's the one in the pics above.

I'm going to bump this old thread.....

So, RallyJon and others ( 81930) seem to have purchased the OEM embossed horn pad...to see if it fits the Pelican 930S wheel...

Did we ever find out if such a match of parts works??? I'm still unclear on this answer even after 4 pages of this thread !!

I still have the embossed pad on back order from pelican. Its probably been about a year now :(

1973911s 07-15-2004 07:57 AM

I have heard from the dealer that this wheel only comes in a dark grey, not black.

Of course, they don't have them in stock so it was a "special order" item. I will let everyone know when, and if, it arrives. I look forward to posting some pictures of it installed on my 930S wheel. My fingers are crossed!
So, the 968 horn pad is backordered everywhere and only in grey?

Bump, Still looking for this wheel in Black with the embossed.

Hello all -

well my luck ran out and the 911 was totaled by the insurance company! So, my steering wheel is for sale. I know some of you are saying its dark grey, but that's not what the part number reflects and look for yourselves to the attached.

It's for sale! I am planning on placing this and many other items on the "for sale" section of this board.

16" Fuchs
rear lid with SC emblem
black 930S wheel with embossed crest
rear "Porsche" reflector and right/left lens all three items are in great shape
993 black aero side mirrors

You have pm.........

So what's the best price out there on an embossed crest wheel? Are they higher quality than the ones Pelican sells?

Wil Ferch 08-09-2004 08:37 AM

Anthony:
That's the whole point...the one Pelican sells is without embossing....

We're trying ( vainly, it seems) to find out if the Porsche-sourced horn pad ( embossed) fits the Pelican wheel.....

Hello everyone -

Well I have received quite a few request for the price as it seems that I did not post that information. Also, many request for the quality of the wheel.

First the price - the wheel is almost new. I would like to get $350.00 for it (not including shipping). The new price is almost $500.00.

It's a one-piece leather wrapped, original fit Genuine Porsche Sport Wheel. Others are not actual Porsche wheels and are pieces of leather stitched together on the wheel (many seams).

Thanks to all that sent requests,
bS
