Next step up from 'S' alloy calipers?

Somebody here must've done this.

What calipers bolt on to 3.5" ears and work with non power-assist master cylinders and stock '73 rotors?

I'm looking for more pad area -- mostly in the front.

Thanks!

Boxster calipers work great, but you need Carrera 3.2 rotors, and a pair of adapters.

Yeah, I know about Boxster brakes. Heck, I even have a Boxster.

But I'm only stopping a 2300-lb. car with a 3.0.

Not looking for overkill...

914 guys use old Volvo calipers, they are 3.0 inch spacing which work with older struts, but the Volvos are 4 piston. BMW 320i I believe, as well have 4 pistons. But with 3.5 inch spacing, Boxster is the way to go. You can do 3.2 Carrera but it only gives you a thicker rotor. There is no such thing as overkill, so go with Wilwood.

I'm stopping a 2300-pound car with a 3.0 as well. I've stayed stock. Stops fine from upper double digits on Stunt Cyn., sooooo...why change?

You are in a grey area where the oem brakes are marginal for track use. First cool them w/ efficient ducts, second use track oriented pads and fluid.

The issue isn't a pad area one it is a rotor one. have you read this page? It outlines the available upgrade steps.

A cheap upgrade for cars in the grey areas that gives you 90% of the bang of the Boxster fronts for way less $$, is to just swap over a set of Carrera fronts w/ no other changes required.

I'll second that. The Carrera set up has a 24mm rotor compared to the stock 20mm. Get a cooling kit and it's a big jump forward in pad life and fade resistance.

I'll agree with the above statements. The alloy S calipers also flex way too much. The Carrera caliper is heavier, but much stiffer, and the Carrera rotors have a much larger heat-sink capacity.

We remove the brake shields, and weld on tabs to the front control arm to install 964 air deflectors. They work great, and are indestructable, unlike those goofy scoops and hose kits.
