There is one guy successfully running it on a pretty rowdy engine I thought. No dyno numbers from him yet though.

Very impressive, same questions as above - how many miles on your engine etc. 23 HP is huge, way more than I was expecting.

My car has about 120,000Km and has stock SC cams. Tranny losses maybe more then 10%, and starting Hp maybe less than 180Hp. Not sure.

I have gotten 25mpg on a H/W trip last year. I haven't done any fuel consumption tests this year.

You can run a more radical setup with with this kit. Look at the earier posts, I wrote about a fellow running MegaSquirt with very high compression engine and GT-2 cams. He is using my custom software with no TPS sensor.

Cheers,

What octane fuel were the dyno tests performed with? In CA, 91 is the best we can do at the average pump (100 race gas at some stations). I'm just wondering if this kit will be feasible for us CA guys.

I just ordered my wife a Dell laptop.
Of course, she needs it to do online classes while posted to the missile fields. I can use it to map the megasquirt ECU. He he he.. 'course, I didn't tell her "that".
I may be keeping my SC, and if I do, the CIS is coming OUT!
I love the mod for the AC problem. Good thinking, Tony!

Just an FYI regarding other mods to go along with this kit:
After contacting Webcam (909)369-5144 I have learned that their 2021 is about the hottest that can be used even when CIS is removed in favor of carbs or the CIS-to-efi kit. The next step up is the 993 supersport cam but they were not sure it would work without trying it and measuring the valve to piston clearance. The 2021s have a great reputation from what I've read on this board. They can also be used with CIS. Now if I wanted to change pistons there would be many more possibilities to go along with this kit.

I use regular (87 octane).

Hmmm. If you don't change the compression ratio, you should not have to change octanes. New pistons/cylinders and cams, or Tony's CIS-to-turbo project would be another story ...

Tony has a 78, lower compression than the 80-83 3.0, keep that in mind. I run 91 CA brew in my 81 with no problems. As Brian says, the injection system should not change anything w/ respect to pre-ignition.

I am far from an expert but my understanding is that North American SCs have 172 HP. This is the SAE HP number.

SAE HP are used in North America to measure power, while in Europe they use DIN HP. I have read in previous posts that 172 SAE HP equal 180 DIN HP.

If this is right, your EFI conversion has generated 8 additional HP.

Brian-
Ignition advance, which would require a higher octane fuel, could also raise the power a bit. However, it would appear that this is a non-issue as 87 octane was used.

OK, so who's going to step up to the plate and do before and after dyno numbers? My SC is in pieces waiting for PolyBronze bushings and torsion bars. Tony needs to give somebody a screaming deal to do some legwork, eh?

Uh Denis - not sure on your math. 180 - 196 is more than 8 and so is 172 - 196 (or whatever the sae # is)

I think Dennis failed to realize that the HP on the chart is rear wheel HP, and the SAE and DIN numbers are engine HP (aka flywheel HP)

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I tought my post was clear but obviously it was not.

I said 'generated 8 additional HP'. I guess I should have said: generated 8 more HP than already reported by tbitz. As the dyno run took place in North America, I think tbitz should compare with SAE HP.

If I apply his logic, I think HP numbers should be revised as follows:

196 Dyno number

22 Transmission loss (10% of 218)

218 tbitz engine HP

15 Exhaust HP gain

31 EFI HP gain

172 Stock SAE HP

Mr. Lombard:

He was meaning 8hp more improvement than what was previously thought due to the fact of SAE vs. DIN and how that would relate to the rwhp #'s he achieved on the dyno.

Have you played with the timing at all yet Tbitz? Have you checked the A/F ratios and experimented with different fuel levels? Was this the initial settings or your optimized settings after tuning on the dyno?

Hey, what's with the times? Dennis and I were both posting at the same time and it was certainly not 2:30 AM

My funds are very limited and I could only afford 1 hour on the dyno so I could only do a limited amount of testing.

My car was very well tuned going into the dyno so I didn't plan on doing to many changes. I spent a little bit of time changing the VE at given RPMs but wasn't able to read any improvement from what I already had. So no changes were made in the end.

Timing is set to 35BTDC at 6000rpm and vacuum (for idle) is removed from the dizzy.

You can easily spend hours at the dyno, so you better be well prepared with what you want to do. Make sure your laptop works before you go to the dyno. Mine freaked out and would not boot just as the car was sitting on the dyno. Lost 10 minutes rebooting Windows a couple of times.

btw 1 DIN = 1.176470 SAE

Edit: oops, I might be wrong here. I'll check it out.
