someone could make a killing building weld in longhood conversions, or even a bolt in that matched up to original fenders, just something to replace the bellows and accept long hood marker and signal lights. I've got very nice welded 930 flares on my car, I'd buy a FRP long hood and some bolt on quarter extensions and an FRP bumper, but don't really want to make it difficult to return my car to 930 look.

We have these:
Weld on steel conversion pieces to back date your 74 -94 front fenders. another shipment on the way from Yur-up as we just sold out our current batch

We have other parts to help you with your back date as well

sorry- no turbo to 73 RSR conversion planned for the time being. Clients have been making the 73 RSR section to fit with these

thanks
Dave

I'd be so down for a turbo to RSR piece

The bumper brackets need to be notched to fit the early fenders, which presumably you've done. To mount the early bumper, I welded flanges to the tub to set the top of the bumper on, then fabbed up brackets for the other mounts. It's pretty simple and straightforward. There are several ways to do it.
Techweenie,
Do you have photos or dimensions of these fabbed mounting brackets? Did you attach them to the bumper shock bracket mounting holes?

I have a picture in the Ultimate Backdating thread. These are the impact absorber tube brackets on the car that need to be notched. Self evident when you put a longnose fender in position...

I used lightboxes from EB Motorsport. My car is on their website. No affiliation etc.

Big thanks to all on this thread - very useful info when I was doing this 2013-14.

Up... Just for fun

I've just found a 78 SC. It's untidy and unloved so --- It's cheap...
It was a LHD car imported from the States in the late 90s and converted to RHD in Aus.

Considering what it would cost to revert back to LHD I thought it would be a great candidate as a "backdate" project.
I haven't bought it yet but we're close on price so it's looking good. I'll start my own backdate thread if I go ahead.

Does anyone have pictures showing their solution for mounting fiberglass front or rear bumpers? If possible, I'm curious to see how you went about fabbing brackets that bolt into the old bumper shock mounts.

Thanks!

This is what I did on my wide body backdate in the front, simple and easy on and off, just one bolt on each bumper end and the 2 on each mount. When I have the front fenders prepped I'll start the back and post pics of that.

Pardon my ignorance, how is it held on? just washer tightened against the slots? I've seen people run these on track cars to easily remove the bumpers during loading/unloading for really low cars:

The 4 bolts with washers yes on the bumper mount, but 1 more bolt at the end of the bumper, going thru the fender and bumper on the inside.

Me again. Any advice from folks who have done the fender conversion? When lining up your pieces what are you using as a guide? The bottom edge of the hood should be in line with the bottom edge of the turn signal right? Any lessons learned on how/where to make the joint?

Thanks!

Remember "Bastard?" The one that started this thread?

After the initial backdate "Bastard" was stripped for paint and while waiting for paint a family happened and I was distracted. Then it got cut up (the SC flare quarters was cut off for 993 quarters) for a 993 widebody...then the career demanded more time, so it sat for a few years. Now the kids are not so needy and the market for old Porsches being what it is I figured it was time to do something with the car....

Now it is backdated AGAIN!

This time it's going further back in time...

Still needs a lot of work.
