Let me intoduce myself

After reading this forum for over two years I feel that it is finally time to stop lurking and introduce myself. I am a 22 yr. old who recently finished college and I have been addicted to all things Porsche, especially 911's, for the better part of ten years. Last January with the help of my very understanding parents I had the honor and the priveledge to make my dream of 911 ownership a reality. I spent four months searching for a 911 to call my own and after many trips to see cars that were advertised as "perfect" I finally found the one. After a clean ppi and a few weeks I had a 911 sitting in the garage.
In the last 8.5 months I have driven over 10k miles and the car seems to get better with every passing mile. I try (with the help of the search button) to do most of the maintenance and what I cannot do the fine folks a Protec Motorsports are just a phone call away. My friends always ask why I got a 1988 Carrera when at the time I could have gotten a C5 Vette for the same money--I just tell them they wouldn't understand and never will get what all of us Porsche owners already know (and personally I like corners). Interestingly I grew up on muscle cars and my parents still have a Corvette that since I got the 911 dosen't see much action anymore, just too many squeaks and rattles for me now that I have gotten used to the 911 that is as tight as the day it was made. I am planning a suspension refresh this winter and I am sure I will have many more questions then. Pelican has all of my business and this board is the best I have ever seen.

Great looking car--consider yourself very fortunate to own your first 911 at 22! Great job!

Congrats!

That is one fine looking specimen! Congratulations! I bought my first 911 (also an 88) this year in March and the experience has been fantastic. Best of luck.

Great to have you aboard. I think everyone here loves that this forum puts up with no BS (or very little). This forum is all about people that love 911's because they are such great cars, not because they're better or flashier than others, but just because they are a great feat of engineering.

P.S. nice car, great color.

Wow, so many posts in such a short time. Thanks guys for the warm welcome. As for the Fuchs I am torn between getting a set of 8's for the back and polishing or going with Fikse FM10's--I know they are a pain to clean but I love the look. The color is very different and rare from what I have been told. Sometimes it looks very silverish and on overcast days it has a definite green to it. Amir, I would be embarrassed to post pics of the engine compartment. Lets just say it is the only car that I have ever had that you could not eat off of the motor, for some reason the PO didn't believe in cleaning the motor every once and a while--I think my best option is going to be to drop it and clean it out of the car. As for interior shots give me a few days b/c I work really different hours and don't have a day off for a few days. One more thing I know that I will always, and I mean always, own at least one 911 until the day I die. This one might be a keeper and maybe after a few more pay raises a Turbo or 993 can join the party. Lastly, if anyone has any leads on a Carrera tail and deck lid let me know, I want to get another deck lid rather than drill holes in the original for a tail.

David, I have to agree with you 100%. I have never been in any other car that ages as well as a 911 or feels as solid even with over 100k. Everytime I work on the car something impresses me from an engineering standpoint--like the first time I pulled the wheels and learned Porsche used Al. lugnuts. Or when the fresh air blower motor started acting up and I learned you can totally take the thing apart and just fix what is wrong rather than buy a whole new unit, that one even impressed my dad. Lastly, I have never driven a car that can make all of the troubles of the world disappear like the 911 and that is why most of the time I take the long way home from work to clear my head and just enjoy life.

Very sweet ride. I got my first 3 years ago a few days before my 30th b-day. It was also an '88. about 50K miles later and it's still a great car ~160K now.

I have loved 911's since I was 8, at least, and had no idea how amazing they were until I started reading up on them. Like a great watch, they are a marvel.

Welcome Dan! She's beautiful and such a unique color. Love to see interior shots. Spartanburg's just up I-85 from me. BMW country with the plant and all.

Currently, I'm rebuilding my front suspension on my '87 and the advice from this board has been invaluable.

This is your last chance to get out now or hold fast for a heavy addiction!

Cheers,

Bob

Great story Dan - and a nice car. I was a Porsche fan for years before I was able to actually afford one. I just realized the other day that I have now owned my car for over 25% of my life. You can achieve that milestone much more quickly than I did. :>)

May you never be "Porscheless"....

Mike
