For those of you that have done the conversion, where did you guys route the DME harness? Did you emlarge the existing hole, go through the area near the upper left shock, or near the left floorboard?

YES, you have to use what I call a wrench panel punch to enlarge the hole. Also, that metal is wicked strong, you have to put some serious A$$ into this, it is a VERY manual job. I have a hydraulic punch set-up but there is no way to get the required stuff into the confined area.

What size diameter is that one - 2" or 2.25"? Where can I get one of thoise panel punches? So, I should just go through the stock hole and mount the DME under the passenger seat?

If I remember right it is supposed to go in the drivers side rear seat kick panel, you probably can enlarge the hole but you will need to put shrink rap or something to keep the eliments from getting to it, Kevin

According to Timmin's kit, he puts it in the driver's side rear kick panel and routes it under the driver's seat. I think I may opt to do that - I wonder if a hole saw will work is the the panel punch alot better?

Unless you modify the harness seal, the "right" way to do it is to run it through upper drivers side firewall, by the shock tower. Then run the harness around the side panel and then under the carpet to the ECU under the driver seat.

btw..in my american muscle car days. the paint job is the last step. any advantage to doing it first?

You do put the harness through the same hole as the other. It just needs to be made larger to get the Motronic connector through and fit/seal the larger grommet that is on the new harness .

i guess it is way more hazardous to drop a motor into a car rather than do all the work from underneath. into the last stages of a 71 bronco build. in the beginning, we had the body shop fix rust and spray just the engine compartment. just seemed safer.

this project is amazing. i am in the east bay as well, let me know if you ever need any addtional muscle.

I just enlarged the stock hole to fit the new and larger grommet on the 993 harness. I forget what size punch I used. Maybe Bill Verburg will chime in here with a correct diameter. You can usually rent this type of punch set at a tool rental facility.

Stock hole? You have a Carrera right Todd? The earlier cars did not already have a harness hole there. 2 1/4" is about right, I have the actually size in mm at home if you want it.
