Topping off 915 while it's out. Should it be level, nose up, or nose down?
Since proper fluid level is measured relative to the fill plug I want to make sure I have my tranny oriented properly when I top it off Since it's out of the car and on the workbench I want to simulate it's orientation to level similar to that when it's in the car.
Level (tranny case ribs horizontal), nose up, or nose down? By nose I mean shift input shaft.

There is a lot of leeway, but I would have it horizotal. As installed it can have a bit of variance for acceptable results.

I always use 3 quarts, measured in, then the orientation of the transmission is not critical.
If it's drained and you measure in 3 quarts, you will be in good shape. regards Hayden |

Bill and Hayden are right on.
It appears that this in a new installation after an overhaul. You are going to want to change the gear oil very soon and then very regularly. The reason is to drain any impurities that somehow got into the transmission during the rebuild. Topping off the transmission lubricant is not a big issue here sense you will be changing it next week.. Best, Grady
