I suspect most of our cars cost a good deal less than $15K so it is easy to see why you can feel good about dumping money into them

Replaced and rebuilt adds up doesn't it? But then the majority of these cars are over 20 years old.

well I was on the opposite end of the spectrum.. paid well under 7 for a complete, non running and mostly rust free car (has a few spots but not bad at all) and I"ve spent several times the price of the car to get it running well.
