Removing bushing/vibration

I've been trying to diagnose a vibration in my 72 911. I think it's coming from the rear. It occurs at about 60mph+. I thought it was coming from the bushing. When I pull off the spring plate, I was surprised to see it has the hard weltmeister bushings. These squeak a lot and give the car a very rough ride. The bushings seem to be in good condition. I don't think they've been lathe, so they could be binding at time. I see some gouges in the inside.

I plan to change to Neatrix bushings. Would this make any difference in the ride quality? Less squeaks? I have Weltmeister in the fronts. I know that polybronze would be better, but I want to save the money for a rear swaybar. How do I remove the inner bushings, they seem to be stuck?

As for the vibration, what else can cause this at higher speed?

Thanks in advance.

John

help needed

Ok, I did a search on Neatrix. Now I still have the problem of removing the weltmeister bushing in the torsion tube. It seems to be stuck.

Thanks,

John

Number one – tire balance.
Number two – flat spot.
Number three – rear wheel bearing.
Number four – Cvs, but usually a "clunk" complaint.
Number five – repeat one and two.

Best,
Grady

For me I thought it was tire balance.

Bent rims.

Could still be bearing but until rims are sorted who knows.

vibration

The wheels were all balance and alignment was done. Still there is vibration at 65+mph. How can one tell if this is the bearing or CV joints? Thanks.

P.S.

As for the weltmeister bushing, I torched the inner ones to melt it out of the torsion tube.

John are you running 205's front and rear? If the rears are no larger than 205's try moving them to the front and see if you still have the vibration. If it is gone or is now in the front you know it is either the rear tires or rear wheels.

exchanging wheels

The rears are 225. The car has after market turbo flares. The tires are unidirectional tires.

Thanks anyway.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but they should stay in the car. They should come out with the springplate. The stock ones do (vulcanized on) and the Netrix go on with Superglue (to the springplate). Although, I had to buy an additional tube of glue to do all 4.

If I had to do it over again (and I'm sure I will some day) I would just wait and go with Elephant racings polly bronze. Fronts, too. Then you could go to bed and say to yourself.... "I'm F'en done, no more messing with bushings"
