It's my understanding that the early Motronic DME does not have any "memory" diagnostics like some newer cars. For example, an early 90's car like my Plym. Laser where you can read error codes from the ECU with a multimeter.

The 3.2 Motronic has read-only memory which is taken from the chip/EPROM. The EPROM is programmed and does not acquire and store any information to tell you how the car is operating. The car knows nothing about how it has behaved in the past and cannot "tell" you what is wrong. The car only knows how to run based upon what current information the sensors provide to the Motronic control unit as the car is running, and then the ECU decides what to do based upon the code programmed into the EPROM. The car doesn't retain any error codes or information to be learned or used for diagnosis. Therefore, disconnecting the battery does not clear anything.

That's how I believe the 3.2 Motronic system basically operates as far as "memory" is concerned.

KTL is right on! No diagnostics or volatile memory for data in the 3.2 DME.
