Back on track, I do think a full length video would be most excellent.

After days of studying and pondering I have come to the conclusion that the shirt is indeed a GruppeB shirt! Congrats guys. Hammer Down.

I've got F1 2002 on my PC. I'm using the logitech MOMO steering wheel and pedals. I've also got quite a few car and track mods as well. I can drive F1 cars at Sears, or Mini Coopers S Cup cars at Laguna Seca. I think I can even run an F1 car at the Nurburgring Nordschleiffe!

The only useful tracks for me are Laguna Seca and Sears Point.

But just in case I get really lucky, I've got Le Mans down pat!

Tyson, have you considered the GTR 2002 mod for F1 2002. With that mod you get the same game and physics except you get to drive GT3RS's, GT2's, Ferrari 360's and 575's, Lamborghini's, Marcos', etc... It's the sports car version. If you don't have it you should get it, it's awesome. It is a 250 MB download, and it does have another big 50 MB patch that goes with it, but it's more than worth it.

I've got it! It has a Cup mode as well, and that's where I get to drive the Mini Cooper S Cup cars, which are a blast!

I also have the Le Mans '93 season, the Alfa Romeo challenge, and the M3 one as well. All very fun.

It's pretty amazing that with modern technology, one can learn every turn of the Nordschleiffe in almost any cay, without ever leaving North America.

EDIT: This is Tyson at Jeremy's computer.

Anyone have comments on the best platform for this (or related) game? I see there is no Mac version, and we don't have any gaming platform at home. I wouldn't want to go XBox just becuase....any preferences of PS2 v. GameCube v. PC? Also how about controllers?

I'm a bit partial to the Gran Turismo series. I have never played the PC sims and it sounds promising as far as track selection, but I have no idea how the cars' behavior compares to Gran Turismo.

I do know that the physics of Gran Turismo are really authentically responsive. I used to replicate different set ups of cars I used to own and track and the changes in 'feel' were remarkable. An Integra would right away feel much more responsive with a bigger rear sway bar. It was great. The last version of the game only had Laguna and Monaco as far as famous tracks, but they were very accurate. The new version is coming out sometime within the next 6 months and although they are including many more eerily authentic tracks, I can only hope that they include Spa, 'Ring, Le Mans, and a few other notable venues.

As far as controls, you can have similar wheels or controllers for PC and PS2. The only downside to PS2, no Porsches. Only RUF cars b/c when asked for permission/specs, Porsche's answer was "there is not substitute."

What a bummer! You have to drive Ruf's? Man, that would suck!

I second the Gran Turismo vote. killer driving sim.

Todd, there is nothing for the Mac. I had to sell my Mac and buy a PC long ago for the sole reason of being able to play Grand Prix Legends. As far an gaming platforms, I prefer the PS2. Grand Turismo 3 has some of the best physics, and changable cars meaning you can add suspension, engne, gear sets, etc, then you can tune camber, toe, wing angles, etc. It's a blast. I have a PS2 version of Le Mans where you run the whole race. I am in the 10th hour now! Also check out Pro Race Driver, where you manage a career as an up and coming driver. Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed can be played on PC, and there is a version for PS2 as well. The PS2 version is not as good.
Cheers

If Porsche or Pelican doesn't sponsor "Dirt Cheap Racing" next year, count me in for $50 bucks to aid the cause....

PG2 (Project Gotham 2) has the best Nurburgring simulation I have seen...and it has MANY Porsche cars for selection, from an sweet RS to the GT1 if you have the time and skill you can earn and drive them all!

Stirring stuff, guys! Congratulations on the win!

A documentary on the '05 OTC would be great.

I'd be willing to come over next year and shoot the '05 OTC with a broadcast-quality camera and my small but well-oiled crew, including a heroic camera operator who shoots news for one of Australia's free-to-air networks.

Making films is how I make my money, but a compelling -- and candid -- documentary on the '05 OTC would be something I'd pay to do!

A production still from our latest project -- a fictional short:

Some behind-the-scenes snaps, including one that features the big-ass camera we'd bring with us:

Postscript:

23 mpg on the highway portions of the trip.

All the decals are off now, and the car is back to daily driver status.

(Hard to believe, but even though the 911 is heavier than stock, the Jaguar weighs 1000 pounds more.)

We need more stories, 2 years in a row with nothing. I supposed you don't have to total the thing and rebuild it, but some rousing stories of the glory of the win and the agony of defeat (without being a ragdoll down the side of a ski jump), would be stellar.

Jack's falling down on the job.
