trying to avoid dispute with mechanic...electrical gremlins after engine R&I
I just got my car back from a tranny rebuild and noticed (after I paid) that my turn signals don't work and my speedometer is bouncing around, acting like a tachometer somewhat. My windows, later decided not to work
this stuff was all fine prior to me bringing the car to him but I'm worried that he's going to say that nothing he did could have caused the problem. I have to think otherwise. any opinions on what happened and/or how to handle the situation? |

What is the battery voltage? Check asap.

Make sure that the ground strap from the trany to the body is there and secure.

John,
What year car is it??? Depending on which or how many cables were left connected, and later stressed as engine pulled on them ... several subsystems other than engine could have been affected by a 'little' oversight on the part of the mechanic ...

We are all alluding to the same thing. In the process of the engine removal (installation?) something in the electrical system could have been damaged or left loose.
Improper ground connections can have unusual and wide ranging effects. Without a ground strap the cranking current must find alternative paths, usually with bad results. That would be my guess also. Too high voltage can damage many components and/or pop fuses. Sorry, Grady

John,
Well, since your speedometer is electronic, and has the sensor mounted on the side of the transaxle ... you DEFINITELY have a complaint, there! If the pair of wires to the sensor [in the tunnel] were left connected while the drop was underway ... the connectors, or the sensor itself could have been damaged by being pulled on with excessive force way beyond normal connect/disconnect! Which would pull out first ... the crimps on the connectors, or the wires epoxied in place at the sensor ... that is the question???

well I think I rousted the troops too early. Speedometer came loose in the area of the rear shiftcoupler. and turnsignals and brakelights were fuse related...more on that later.
He says it's fixed at no charge I'll give an update tomorrow. Thanks for the speedy responce!!
