Did anyone notice the smile on the car with Jane's hand on the front bumper?

Edgar, Your humor, like your scotch, is great.

Hi all,
Time for an update. Brakes done, new pads and front calipers rebuilt. System flushed. Fuel line replaced. Clutch adjusted, oil in the engine and it has oil pressure!
All wireing, I hope, fixed. Heater fan lubed with new flapper valve foam seals. Washer pump fixed and new check valve installed. Seats repaired.
Knee pads arrived yesterday. I'll install today.

Rick has the wheels to clean. Tires due soon. Waiting for fan pully shims and fuel tank strainer.

Carpets, upholstery, and rear window and ?? left to do.

Thanks for all the help with bits and pieces.

Spring is here. The birds are singing. The weather is warming. Anything new with the Bennett car?

rcecale 04-08-2005 08:29 AM

We have had some warmer weather but, a ton of rain up here. I'm thinkin' it's warm enough for Ed to put away his skis and start thinkin' P cars again. Not that he ever stops thinkin' about them. His garage is a testament to that.

Carpets and the rubber seals for the glass are here. I have a CIS issue to solve and Chris B. has a transmission tweek to do.
I have been trying to fix an old Toyota (UGH) that ran out of coolant for a friend. The best solution would have been a match!
The weather is warmer and I'll be back on it full time soon.

On behalf of myself and the band, thank you for seeing this through.

Hey Ed,
You up for visitors? I might have to take the old targa out for a spin this weekend.
Rick

Ed B 04-09-2005 05:21 AM

Rick,
Sure. I'll be unavailable from 4pm to 10 pm Saturday, though.

let me know via PM if you need any top shelf gear oil, engine oil, or penetrants. Of course they will be gratas! (BTW - have a great product that cleans and protects vinyl and another that does a great job at cleaning the cars finish without harming the wax). Just let me know...

Ed,

Noticed that Jane also had quite a smile! They must have both enjoyed it! :)

Hey Lube..
Would you class steering gearbox grease with wheel bearing grease ?

I would infer that from reading your old threads.

thx

M.D. Holloway 04-10-2005 10:05 PM

A wheel bearing grease would most likely do well in that application. The NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute) has a few different classifacations:
GC: automotive wheel-bearing lubricant
GC-LB: automotive wheel-bearing and chassis lubricant
LB: automotive chassis lubricant

The steering box grease may just require a LB rating which only looks at a few performance criteria, the GC has more performance requirements in terms of anti-wear and water resistance.

Additional info: There is also the ASTM D4950 "L" Category:
LA: for frequent lubricationÑ3,200 km (2,000 miles), or less
LB: for wide temperature range

The ASTM D4950 "G" Category:
GA: for limited temperature range
GB: for wide temperature range, frequently as high as 120°C (248°F), occasionally as high as 160°C (320°F)
GC: highest performance level

You can check to see if the tube grease has these designations but really their is no one out there policing the performance criteria. I get products in all the time that say theay perform to a certain level and they end up looking like snot.

If you need a few tubes of the goods - drop me a PM with your shipping address and I'll get you some.

I'd rather spend 10hrs driving for the goods than waste 10sec of your time.

I feel guilty already that I can't repay you for your patience. thx

Hi all,
Well, The Toyota is running, at last! Back to the Targa. I'd like to get the CIS straightened out before we get the tranny "adjusted". Chris B are you listening? 68F yesterday, 32F today. Local skiing is over so I don't have any more excuses.

I hear you Ed. I helped deliver a motor this AM (and collected a free lunch). That means I still have 4 motors in the garage. Hope to get one more in a car and away today. THEN I can start on some paying work...
The charcoal canister lead didn't pan out. How's next week or weekend look?

-Chris

P.S. Anyone got a charcoal canister for a pre-1984 911 they want to donate?

The LubeMaster is saddened...but will be in LI the end of June. If you don't take the products freely the LubeMaster shall be forced to power grease you!

The LubeMaster has spoken...all hail to the freedom from friction and bearing loose prevention.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif

Hey guys,
Chris, Ed, let me know if you need someone to stand around and watch for a bit. Ed, sorry I missed you. Teresa and I have purchased a new business. I'm working both jobs right now until we are up and running. I will try to slide out for a run in the targa this weekend. That little bit of dirt road on the way to my house is not p-car ready yet.
Cheers
