Wink My speedometer needle "squacks and quacks" like a duck...no kidding.

Well I drove the 911 about 60 miles distance today, and something I've had ever since I bought the car I thought I'd mention. The speedometer, which fluctuates, (but is accurate when steady), often makes a "squack, squack" sound as the needle moves?

Anyone have a clue on this one?

Thanks.

Mine does that too. It got worse and worse to the point I had to disconnect it. I have to assume something inside is worn or broken, and the speedo needs a rebuild.

Disconect it at the transmission so it doesn't damage anything.
Send the speedometer in for inspection and repair.
Check out the speedometer cable for smothe operation.
Reinstall, reattach, enjoy.

As easy project.

Best quack,
Grady

fellas, i just replaced my speedo cable. still fluttered. friendly pelican responded to a private message and told me to spray wd-40 in the speedo, which i did. stopped the chatter AND now new cable + wd-40 = no more bounce or chatter.

If you decide to have the speedo (or tach) serviced, call Pelican.
They have many vendors, some of which can repair your gauges.

I wondered about doing that. Any particular place to spray in the lube?

climb in trunk, undo cable at speedo, point tip in and spray away. drive a bit, do it 2 or 3 times (plug cable in drive, etc) and problems will be solved. or not.
