VTK Group member question

Started pricing out some oil lines for my VTK specific 72 911 Targa. Is there any aftermarket supplier other than the OEM version? I have a few lines to replace on my rebuild.

oil lines

Cassidyp;
are you talking about the steel oil lines to the front of the car, or are you talking about the rubber hoses with aluminum ends. If the rubber lines are dripping oil they can easly be fixed. In 1972 the aluminum ends are threaded to the hose. They can be removed and sealed to stop small leaks.

Hayden & Bill,

Thanks for your replies guys. This board is a great resource for so many issues that arise in these cars. I especially like the idea of the VTK group as are cars have some unique parts.

No oil cooler up front on this car. I am rebuilding the engine keeping it a stock 2.4 with MFI with (T specs). I'm glad that I saved the aluminum fittings when I removed the hose as I was hoping to be able to fabricate another hose and re-use the fittings. The original hose was totally shot when it was removed. Thanks again guys.

Speaking of the VTK group being helpful, I could use some help. I just bought one and could really use some pictures of the car inside, outside, underneath, everywhere. The car is a restoration project and there are many missing/broken pieces. Could you guys help out by taking and posting some pics. Great opportunity to show off your ride too!

First off do not rebuild a 2.4T motor to be a 2.4T motor. It is a waste time/effort, I did this once on the top end thinking I was doing the right thang. For almost the same level of effort, (but not parts) you can have 2.4S and that my friend (we Pelican folks are friendly) is where you want to be. Scrounge up the S parts and buddy you will be glad you did.
Ask me how I know. HTH

I tried to rebuild my 2.4T to original T specs. The race shop doing my machine work plainly refused to let me do this. Friends don't let friends build low CR motors!!

Oil lines: A good hydraulic shop can often refurbish worn out and leaky lines. Try out your yellow pages before calling the dealer for OEM...

Thanks for the caution on the 2.4 rebuild. I am thinking of using the 2.4 for awhile while I learn how to drive better and then, maybe upgrading to something more powerful down the road after attending to suspension mods and other stuff. With that said, I expect to use the 2.4 for 2-4 years. What the cost of doing a rebuild on the 2.4 and doing the "appropriate" upgrades along the way? Reason I ask is because if it's too costly, I might as well start thinking upgrade now. This becomes especially true once I add in oil lines, etc. Also, what are good upgrades for the 2.4?

Oh wow. The non-S 2.4 is ripe for upgrades due to the (relatively) lazy T and E cams, and the low compression pistons. Do a search - there's lots of threads out there detailing my engine upgrades, as well as Tim Walsh's, Tyson Schmidt's (RIP), and others. The heart of the modifications in these engines is basically upgrades to the pistons and cams. Good used sets of 2.2T, E, and S pistons are out there, if not super-easy to find.

Check out Wayne's book as well as Bruce Anderson's book - -- then read some old threads here. The potential for a hotrod 2.4 pushing close to 200 very tractable horsepower is enormous. Best part is, you don't have to invest an arm and a leg to get it.

Upgrade now !!! Don't waste money now on your T engine and spend more later on an upgrade.

Don't waste your time on the "T" rebuild. Rebuild your 2.4 to "S" spec's put on some SSI and a sport muffler and have fun for a long time.

OK now that you mention the 200 hp you have got my attention. Tell me the basic upgrades to get to S specs. The engine is compeltely torn apart and I am waiting to get the heads back and start putting it back together. Getting upset with the local shops delays in working on my heads and ready to get them back and use Pelicanite for the work.

So what do I need to get to "S" specs???

Sorry, I should clarify--I meant drive the 2.4 upgraded (if cost effective) and then upgrade to a different engine entirely. However, if your saying that I can do a reasonably priced upgrade and get around 200 hp, then your starting to talk my language.
