I thought I wanted to share 2 videos with you that I got from the first owner of the car (being the 4th owner now).
They were probably taken in 1980.

1) Cool to see the style of late 70s/early 80s...
Car wash

2) The original console was replaced by a selfmade aluminm rack, likewise the speakers in the back.

Hi,

I figured I would ask the Targa guys, I am a new owner of an 1987 Targa, the previous owners took great care of the vehicle. The top was rebuilt a couple of years ago and has not been folded since.

Is there any place to put the unfolded top in the vehicle...
Any precautions when folding and unfolding the top....

Thanks,
J

Yes, the unfolded top can be carefully slid behind the front seats. Can't help on folding as I never tried it.

I fold mine and lay it in the trunk with the vinyl side up. The manual tells how to fold it properly.

This reminds me of the time I did a full-on detail of a pretty nice old 300ZX with T-Tops. I made that thing look brand new, in the course of it I took the tops off to clean their channels and left them carefully stowed as it was beautiful outside when I took it back to the owner.

He about had a panic attack, he'd never taken the tops off and I had now ruined his life.

I intend absolutely no offense, but why buy/have a car with a view of the sky if you are afraid to use it's apparatus the way the manufacturer intended? It should be noted though that nothing on my car is nearly museum quality so YMMV

As I live in Georgia, and the AC in my car is feeble, I left the top off all summer long, and stored it open in the extra bedroom/office. I just put it back on last week.

In my case, it was never folded because it was either slid behind the seats or hanging in the garage.

If you want the top to last, don't fold it up. That destroys the vinyl over time, as well as strerch it.

My top was recovered 5 years ago. I fold it often with no complications - and mine is 40 years old. Just get it recovered if it ever gets bad.

Mine

A bit old - has since had a complete suspension refresh with upgrades, and lowered to Euro specs.

mray2682, what color blue is yours?

Gordo2's targa looks like Iris Blue while your's look to be a deeper color (or is it just the lighting?).

There was a metallic blue in the SC's that I really liked.
