Odometer not working

My odometer doesn't work (apparently very common). So I took apart my speedo to see why. The lamp holders were a b!tch to get out. In the process, I pulled out one of the lamp wires. I think I can just jamb it back in, but should I try to disassemble the holder and re-crimp?

Anyway, here's what I found. This is the gear Rennbay sells, right?

When I touched it (on the left side in the picture), a tooth disintegrated.

That is the gear that always goes. I don't know about rennbay gear. That option was not around when mine broke so I had to take it to a speedo shop. Since you have it apart it is worth a shot.

Unlike women, a race car is an inanimate object. Therefore it must, eventually, respond to reason.

Check the archives. The cost to replace that gear is about $25. You can get the gear at www.odometergears.com. There are a couple tricks, suggest the archives check and technical bbs.

OBTW, if you have a ROW...make sure you get the right gear. Would pay to check.

The reason these gears strip, by the way, is because people try to zero the odo with the car under way. Do that at a standstill or don't do it at all.

Odometergears.com has the gear. Getting the speedo needle off to effect the repair is sometimes an adventure. In any event, if you've got it stripped that far down, its worth the 25 bucks.
