Some of you have asked about the signal generated by the magnetic pickup coil in SC and Turbo distributors ... when trying to troubleshoot ignition problems ...
I found these application notes a while back, and thought some here might be interested ... http://www.st.com/stonline/books/pdf/docs/4347.pdf http://www.st.com/stonline/books/pdf/docs/5201.pdf

Did it ever occur to anyone that Warren is the "Wilson" of Pelican Parts? (as in the TV show Home Improvement)
Definitely the Renaissance man of our forum! Cheers! ![]()

Who knew that thyristors and SCRs were still so common and had so many applications? A co-worker looking at my CDI box scoffed at the ancient technology.
thanks for the info.

"ancient technology"??????
It's called a simple & functional design which many EEs forget now days, i.e. many electronic designs don't require a uP and memory devices. Remember that the failure rate of any electronic system increases with each additional component. Check out this web site (www.systemsc.com) on the Waveforms page.

Here is an online version of the 'classic' 1974 International Rectifier SCR Application Manual ... the data is still as valid today as it was 30 years ago!
It is a set of multiple files linked together, and exceeds 53 MB, total! http://www.irf.com/product-info/thyristor/manual/scr_manual.pdf
