Replacing DME Relay

Based on all of your good advice I'm going to start carrying around an extra DME relay.

Question: Must I remove the seat to replace it? (Bentley says so and my searches have not made this clear.)
Or have any of you successfully changed it by feel, perhaps from the rear?

Just need to know if I should also carry along the allan wrench for the seat screws.

It fairly easy to replace without removing the seat.

Pull your carpet back and you'll see the relay.

I estimate about 5-10 minutes to replace.

another bentley waste of time. move the seat all the way back and it's real easy to get see. for a quick emergency swap, position the seat in the middle and all the way upward, reach in from the back to unplug it and reach in the front with the new relay and feel the plug onto it. leave the old relay bolted to the floor, and set the new one next to it until you have time and tools to swap it.

Just what I had hoped you'd all say. I was not looking forward to the possiblilty of wrestling with a seat R&R with my a$$ hanging out in traffic.
Thanks!

Anyone have a picture of the relay, and where it's located on the board?
Would help to get a 'visual'.

thanks

I hope to be, but my cab was rear ended on Saturday waiting on a onramp behind the red/green signal light onto the 101 freeway. So my car is all f*ck up! You should have seen the ensuing chase between the Dodge Ram 1500 and myself. It was like a scene on Cops. I was going 90+ mph down the restricted bus lanes to bypass traffic and catch him; we were practically at a dead stop for a minute blocking two lanes as I was yelling at him (he didn't want me to read his rear license plate), and jumping several lanes to follow the guy onto the 110 south. He got off the freeway and was running red lights to disappear. Just as I lost him from him disappearing on some side street, I came up to a LAPD vehicle, shouted to them about chasing a hit and run driver, and immediatedly a high speed chase/search commenced on the streets. Just when the we though we'd never find him, here comes Mr. Pedro Fuentes with the smashed in front end, rolling up in front of us at the cross intersection like like he think he got away.

Needless to say, they had their guns on him, he was arrested, but he is back out on the streets today, probably out on bail. What sucks is this guy has no insurance, he says he's a handyman, and I'm not covered for uninsured motorists. If he doesn't pay up, I will see to it that his ass goes go jail for felony. I'm telling you, driving in L.A. sucks - you never win.

Here are the pics of his front end I took with my cell phone:

If you have a power drivers seat move it "full up" for allot more room to work.

Oh man....glad you busted him. I'm not sure if I want to see the pics of the cab...but maybe I do and I'm just sick.
Glad you're not hurt and hope he pays the price.

I am so pysched you caught the SOB. I know his not having insurance sucks but personally I'd be a LOT happier at least knowing he's going to go through some ***** for hit and run, no insurance, probably avoiding arrest. I'll bet your adrenaline level was sky high...I'd have done something stupid for sure.

That dodge truck would bring about $3000 on the market...I'd say you "repossess" it for him.

Let's see the damage to the cab.
