993 again - serial and engine number??

Hi all - have another question. I am consulting the Porsche 911 'red book' which covers model years 1965 - 1999 to confirm serial and engine numbers on this 97 car. Frankly, neither the serial or engine number, or build date coincide with what the book says they should be???

ENGINE NUMBER64V00203 (book says it should be a 64T number and in no 993 series can I find a 64V.

SERIAL NUMBER WPOAA2996VS320062 - the 'V' confirming it as a 1997 modeal year, but the book says that the letter 'C' should precede the 'V', not a number (in this case '6')

BUILD DATE - MAY 96 build date on door jam (owner has paperwork that refers to a MARCH 96 build date of some sort also), but according to the RED BOOK, that is the time period that reflects the car should be a 1996??!!!

Any and all help would be appreciated! Thanks

It doesn't match exactly on my VIN number either and I have an 84. One letter is off and the build date on my VIN is in September when the Red book say the production was until July of 84.

thanks greatly to both for your responses - very helpful (and comforting!). The owner is now having second thoughts about even selling the car (urgghhh!)! He wants a few days to think about it and will get back to me. Thanks again
