Too good to be true? Thoughts on this ding? NOW WITH PIC!
Found a really nice Carrera I was really excited about, until I
learned about this ding, and now I'm not sure what to think.... ![]() I've not yet seen this car in person yet as it is not local to me (someone from this site has been gracious enough to arrange to go and check it out for me tomorrow). From what I understand so far and the pictures I've seen the car is probably about as good as they come otherwise. Low miles, really excellent condition. I'm just not sure what to make of this ding. Quite a shame for such an otherwise nice example. How big a downer is this on the car's value? Repairable via one of those paintless dent removal places? I'm not sure but I wonder if the paint is damaged enough that trying to push it out would be a bad idea. And I'm not sure how accessable that area would be from behind. Wondering if this will be a deal breaker... Thoughts? Last edited by mmm; 10-02-2004 at 04:23 PM.. |

If the car is going in a museum I'd take a pass but if you're gonna drive it don't worry too much. That ding could happen anywhere that you leave it parked for more than 10 minutes.

A paintless dent remover won't be able to help you with that as I don't think they can get behind it, and it looks too deep to get out totally.
This should be easily fixed by a good shop so I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker. I had my 20 year old Black metallic paint matched perfectly a while back but I'm not sure how hard it is to match that color. It is in a spot that would bug me enough to get it fixed. Tell us more about the car. ![]() |

It's not in the middle of the door or hood. Small areas like that are easy to blend.

From what I understand from photos and talking to the owner, the car is a low miles otherwise excellent 1989 Carrera 3.2 FWIW. Prior to learning about the ding, I was convinced this was "the one". It still may be, but my enthusiam and faith is a bit shaken as I have only just now heard about this damage. Maybe it's not as big a deal as I'm making it out to be. A fellow Pelicanite has been kind enough to offer to check over the car for me tomorrow, so I guess I'll have a better feel after that. Last edited by mmm; 10-02-2004 at 07:56 PM.. |

My wild ass guess is that it wouldn't cost more than $500 to get fixed - probably less. I wouldn't let that stand between you and a nice car.

It's not red, white, black, or silver. Then again it's not red, white black, or silver. |

mmm, you can upload pics directly to this site. No need to "host" them.
Just look for "upload picture" in the reply screen. For what it's worth, I like the color. good luck,
