ignition resistor versus strength of spark
Does an in-line resistor prior to the coil, hurt the strength of the spark as it exits the coil?
I'm trying to put together an ignition set up for a vintage car on a 2 piece points-early distributor..... I'm not allowed to run a crankfire, and just figured out last night that the pertronix I bought doesn't fit.... what do other vintage (1967S motor) people do? I have a crane optical in a street car and always wondered if the inline resistor kept me from a stronger spark.... does MSD make a points replacement? sorry I'm thinking out loud now brant |

If the coil is used in an inductive discharge ignition system versus a CDI, the resistor
will affect the strength (energy) of the spark. Check out this web site ( www.systemsc.com ) on the Technical page on Ignition Systems for more info.

so you're trying to eliminate potential ignition noise ?

Re: Re: ignition resistor versus strength of spark
Sorry I'm slightly confused by your question.
my ultimate goal is to run the best race (non crankfire) ignition that I can for a track only motor.... I want to get away from points for reliability Quote:
