http://www.sleepy-fish.com/sleepy/TopGear_Porsche_911_hi.wmv

What he has to say about the design I pretty much agree with. Oh and the gearknob comes off Well done Porsche.

For those who don't have the bandwidth to download the video:

Clarkson's article on the new 911

Interesting to note that he has actually gone on record to say that he HATES p-cars, and in one video crashes a pre '73 into a caravan (trailer for our American friends?)...

Cheers!

Just watched it a second time. It does sound like they've improved the engine note. That's a good thing. But maybe it's only the 3.8 that benefits from better sound?

WTF? Has anyone ever found a more back-handed way to praise an automobile than that written piece?

Clarkson hates 911's, always has. They even dropped a piano on a 911 one time. (the car actually held up quite well)

ALthough I think that the Carrera GT had the fastest lap time of any other car they'd tested. It had so much torque that Stig had to spend the whole morning getting used to it before he could make a run....

Jeremy Clarkson's comments have to be taking with a grain of salt. It is very well know that he hates everything about 911s

Too bad the final timed lap was on a very rainy track. From what I've read it should have came in right around the GT3's times--maybe slightly slower.

Say what you will: Cayenne, water-cooled, blah-blah-blah. Porsche has never lost the talent to build one hell of an automobile.

I don't think Clarkson's intertwined disdain for Nazis and Porsches is at all rational, but I had to stop chewing my almonds when I read his description of the 997's interior:

Inside, it’s much the same story. Yes, you now have a centre console that seems to have been lifted piecemeal from the Cayenne off-roader, but you have the same driving position and, because of the overriding solid blackness of it all, the same sense that you’ve inexplicably wound up in one of Albert Speer’s underground bunkers.

Hilarious.

Well if the guy has always hated 911's and he starts liking them,
what does that say for the new ones?
Just a thought

BTW, the fifth gear test of the 997 with tiff behind the wheel is much better. Not because he likes the 911's, but because he seems to beat it really good and loves every minute of it.
