Lamba relay questions
Being that the OXS relay is a special order and I'm impatient, I went to radio shack and got an auto relay for 6 buck. The bad news, it didnt have a 87b pin(the middle one). I bought it anyway, but the frequency valve still doesnt work. Since the 87 and 87b seem to be parallel, can I some bridge the 2 pins rather than buy another relay?
Proof that I am tight, but can anybody that knows what they are doing tell me if this is OK or not? Thanks,SCott ![]() ![]()

Scott,
I went to replace mine and saw the same offering from Radio Shack. I went to another retutable auto parts store and bought a five pin relay, placed it in my car, and attempted to drive. I had to pull over at the earliest available point to reinstall my old sensor (which still worked fine - I was just looking for a back up since it is 23 years old). The car ran absolutely terrible with the new relay. I am here to say that all five pin relays are NOT created equal. I returned to the auto parts store later to return the relay and brought my existing relay (821-951-253). The manager looked through books of relays but could not locate a relay that matched the electrical schematic on my existing relay. There was also no cross reference from the part number to a more reasonably priced part... Since this is an Audi / VW part it may be found at those dealers cheaper. I am just having a very hard time in parting with $31.98 for a relay. If you successfully find one that is more reasonably priced and operates properly please let me know.

As you can see from the wiring diagram, both the freq. valve and pin 8 of the Lambda unit
get powered at the SAME time but from different points. So, you can use a GOOD relay which has two 87s versus a 87 & 87a. The standard Bosch relay with two 87s will work fine. That relay has the two 87s connected versus the 30s connected on the 87/87a relay. The relay that you show should work, as it provides the two powers when closed. The final check is to use a testlight to check for power at pins 8 & 15 with the Lambda unit disconnected. If the freq. valve doesn't buzz with the proper powers, the Lambda unit or the valve is bad. Checkout this web site (www.systemsc.com) on the Diagnostics page for more info.

Yes the relay I posted will work, but the one I have doesn't have the center 87 pin. It's a 4 pinner. One pin short of a full relay
![]() Anyway, My question is, is there any reason I can't connect 2 wires going to different places(FV and Lamba unit) to run off the single 87 contact switch? Thanks, SCott
