SC electical problem
I accidently left the ignition on for a long time with the engine off, and now my '79 SC is dead.
I put a charger on the battery for a few hours (which, after reading the forums, I understand may have been a mistake) but still no power to anything with the exception of hazards and horn. I'm ready to get out the voltmeter ![]() Thanks! |

Check the battery voltage, should be between 11.75 and 12.25. Could be slightly lower if it still needs to be charged. How old is the battery and what amp rating did you use to charge the battery?

Car batteries do not like to be totally disharged like that. A few times and they actually die all together, then they don't hold charge anymore.
Get out your voltmeter, and measure the v during the crank.

also...standby voltage should be close to 12.6V.
At high-11's....it's practically dead. Wil

Thanks for your responses. After reading them, I checked the voltage on the battery....11.85. Noting happens when I turn the ignition, and I mean NOTHING. No click, no change on the voltmeter, nothing.
Just to be sure I pulled the battery out of another car (99 Tacoma) and put it in the Porsche...no change in results. I'm wondering if I "burned out" some part of the ignition circuit (coil, switch, etc.) by leaving it on so long?? Any more thoughts would be most appreciated.

Hey Everybody,
Thanks again. I found a little plug that had come lose under the dash by the ignition switch. All is good now. Thanks.
