ignition timing for 911SC with CIS

Looking for input from memebers on iniital static timing for 1979 911SC with CIS for max performance.
I am currently running about 7-8 degrees before TDC at 900 rpm idle, but wanted to know what the initial timing should be for max performance.
The engine is 8.5 to 1 compression US spec motor. Stock CIS but has 964 cams installed.
I tried getting a reading on my maximum advance at 5500rpm, but am not sure how accurate a reading I can get since it is uncomfortable to be revving the engine to that speed with my head stuck in the engine bay consistently, and trying to take a reading off the crankshaft pulley that is not marked with a scale of numbers.
Thanks for the input.

On my 80SC, I am running 35 degrees max advance at 6K RPM's, which translates to approx 12 degrees at 950 RPM's. Have you thought about using an adjustable timing light? That way you only have to use the Z1 mark. If you get any detonation, back off the advance a hair.

Just got one of those for Xmas as that was my next thought too.
Did you notice a difference in power by running this much advance as opposed to more normal factory settings of around 5 degrees BTDC?
Just wondering if I should expect a noticeable improvement.
Thanks,
