Another RSR Clone Project - Update 6

The car has now had the final paint and buffing and is looking great. Next will be the installation of the headliner and then the roll bar, carpet and graphics. The headliner must be indstalled before the roll bar because of the clearance issue. I decided to let the pros do the graphics and carpet before I get the car back in later this month.

Ya know....if I won the lotto ( large) or was independently wealthy...I would be doing something *very* much like this instead of simply "writing a check" for a new car.

Yeah....walk into the shop with the coffee cup in the hand..."How's it going , boys?....what're we gonna be doin' today? (slurp)...."

Yep.....

Mike , I can tell you're my kinda "enthusiast"....

Wouldn't that just be too cool?...talking to the shop guys and every once in a while "you" have to make a decision?? ( color, build options, desired features or spec for pieces...)

Oh yeah.....

Beautiful car! Curious, why the satin black around the gauges and dash? Is that how it was from the factory. Really gorgeous car! Thanks for sharing.

The original cars of that period had the dash, footwell, center console and side vents painted satin black over the body color in the interior. There are some great restoration photos on the Gunnar Racing website of original restorations in process of Carrera RS's and RSR's.

Relative to some of the discussion of just walking into the shop and discussing what needs to be done next....I'll say that I've got a tremendous amount of my own sweat into this project. Stripping the car down to it's bare shell and removing all of the undercoating in my garage took at least 150 hours. Bagging, bead blasting, painting, plating, sourcing and trial assembly of the sub-components also takes a tremendous amount of time and energy.

The great work that Auto Associates is doing are things that I don't have the experience to do myself and get perfect the first time. Once the car comes back to me, I will be reassembling the suspension with all of the new components, rewiring the chassis and rebuilding the engine with the help of Wayne's book, the guys on this website and the advice of the guys at Auto Associates.

This project is the result of 15 years of dreaming and 5 years of planning. I want it to be as perfect as possible and I want to do as much of the work with my own hands as is practical. This website it the greatest resource for the do-it yourself amatuer like me.

I am hoping to have the car on the road late this summer and do a driver's ed at lime rock in the fall. If not, then next spring for sure.

Exactly my thinking, Wil. I would love to build an RSR just like this.
