Adding to the pool of Southern California RSR clones
This has been a work in progress since October '04, when I spoke to Dave Bouzoglou from TRE about wanting to buy / build an RS or an RSR clone. Dave brokered a deal with toomany911s' '71 911T, which had been updated to an 86 Turbo - look body, suspension and gearbox. The car had been sitting for some time. After a PPI determined a strong 3.2L engine and rust free platform, I decided to go for it! The car was shipped directly to Axiom Motorsports in Inglewood, CA (Los Angeles), at Dave's referral for a complete back-date treatment, which includes FG ducktail and front and rear bumpers.
The major flaw was that the steel flares had been lap welded rather than butt welded, so they were rusting on all four corners. The fenders were removed, disected and put back together. The front fenders also required backdating for the horngrills. A basic DE rollbar was added. The next steps in painting are to prep the trunk, drop the engine, prep the engine bay and paint. Then the complete car will be color sanded and polished. When the paint is complete in a few weeks, I'll be adding SSi's, an MB911 style RSR muffler, installing a spartan interior, featuring Sparco Evo2s, RS / RSR style panels, and redoing both front and rear suspenion. I have complete torsion bars and mirage int'l valved matching shocks from Pelican Ted Drake. I plan to raise the front spindles about 20mm. Color is two stage BMW Titanium Silver. 17"x9.5x11 Lindsey Fuchs are in my garage, ready for installation. I've selected some interesting photos which show three + months worth of progress. Enjoy! Wow, you can't swing a dead cat in SoCal any more without hitting an RS/RSR clone...

Wow. That 2nd pic of the front fender reminds me of a fender I had like that last month. A bondo sculpture that looked like a fender. (Seeing that band of bondo revealed at the top by the grinder.)
Glad you cleaned that up. Gonna be a great car. |

Awesome Doug! Keep posting updates. Plan on lunch at Mirage in a week or two. I'll let you know asap.
Silver Porsches look great. On Pelican we seem to have 2 clubs here for every type 911, where is the early RSR club? ![]() Last edited by ted; 01-26-2005 at 05:53 PM.. |

Thanks for all of your kind words and positive comments. Not to defend but.....No doubt it is a clone and not 100% correct, with real ones in six digit figures, this is my reality and I'M STOKED!!
Look for future updates.... Doug

Yeah, so its a clone. I like it. It has brake upgrade, 3.2, 71 chassis, it will be a quick car.
So the real question here is... Did you take pictures to document the filler sections for the front turbo flares to RSR? So many people on this board want to know.

I think Rubber jeep is joking. I doubt he is too sensitive about widebody clones. His turbo look must have been kidded in the past about being a poser wide body. A wolf in sheeps clothing.
![]() The great thing about not owning a real RSR is that you can make yours better. With over 30 years of automotive engineering available a new RSR can be better than a 73 RSR or even a 19 year old turbo look. ![]() ![]() I too hope to share some pics of my own widebody perversion soon. Are you going to put any side script on the Silver car? |

Absolutely "Ted" RSR clones, I love them and if I had the choice for a second Porsche, an RSR clone would be my goal.
I just keep thinking that there should be a "SPEC" class for all these clones, this way when people start to race, it could become a "Driver vs. Driver" race, not who has the most money. Kind of like the Spec Miata class, they are all lighter weight then stock, slight performance mods with safety mods being required. I'm just trying to get more "G" series owners to go the IROC route, this way we can have 2 diferent classes some day.

Ted,
I take no offense. All comments are cool with me. Positive are appreciated. I have ordered from porschedecals.com the side Carrera script and bumper stripes. I will also have the script for the tail. From the side it will resemble Garner's RS. I haven't decided about black or silver trim for the windows, yet. Both seem like they'd look great. Doug

By all means DW, no offence was intended, I comend you for pursuing your vision. I'm just one of those guys that likes to stay period correct and that's the reason for my bias towards the IROC.
