What can you get for 10 grand?

My co-worker has driven my 74 with an 86 3.2 and is now totally hooked. His limit is $10,000 and it has to be black.

Here's mine:

Can he find something nice like mine for the price here in the Bay Area?

Cheers,

Joe

An SC with higher mileage and a bit rough around the edges, e.g. neeeding seats, some minor paint issues etc. can be had for that. I do not see any problem. Of course, he needs to understand that he will spend another 10k shortly, because after all is said and done these are all 20k cars.

Honestly, unless he does his own work, I'd advise to spend 15k.

KevinP73 has a customer car that's had a total restoration -- body and mechanical. Black coupe. Not sure if it's a '76 or '77...

I paid $9985 for my 84 targa 3.2 with all receipts, even the original sticker...

This is what it looked like when I bought it...

The interior was some what beat up with the need for new carpet & drivers seat, AC didn't work, cheap radio, needed 2 new tires. Ran great though & the body was in very nice shape.....

Took me a month to find it.....

I have spent more on stuff I really didn't need but had to have such as SW chip, C2 body upgrades (in progress), boxster seats, 993 door panels, GPS, cab conversion, etc...I don't want to add it up the entire cost yet ...but now its a cab and is much faster and more comfortable.....

Price really depends on location & timing and a good dose of patience & determination...

Good luck for your friend, he will thank you for the addiction (nice coupe)........
Chris

This is what I got for less than $10k but aigel is correct, he should budget for at least $15K. With new seats, new suspension, tranny rebuild, clutch, custom Fuch/BBS wheels, tires, alignment, SSI and Dansk, I am well past that already and have plenty left to do.

George is right on the money. 10K$ to start and 10K$ later with lots of owner supplied blood, sweat and tears, or 15-20K$ up front.

If he can't swing 15K$, he can't. As long as he's prepared for the extra work...

What they said, although he could probably find a '74-76 in nice shape for $10K or less. You just have to make sure all the 2.7L engine related issues have been dealt with.

My buddy just bought a '78 SC in black with tail, black centered, chrome lipped Fuchs. The car is REALLY clean and runs nice. Right at about 100K miles for $8500. Admittedly a great deal and there are lots of Porsches in Southern California...but tell him to be patient. Thedeal will come if he doesn't force it, does his homework and most of all, is ready to strike with CASH when the deal comes along.

Rick,

What else would you do with a 74?

Why not incorporate the best of the newer ones while keeping the classic lines.

Cheers,

Joe

10K will get you a high mileage but nice SC.

Again yelcab, that car won't run long in daily service until you realize that it needs suspension work, the one or other oil leak fixed, a new dash, new window seals, the hood bumpers go out, the seats split, etc. etc. There is no "needs nothing" SC out there for 10k. The ones that are real nice or have been gone through still sell for 15k.

I just paid 9,400 for my 80SC In Denver CO. Needs a host of oil leaks fixed, nothing major mind you, just drips. I have spent about $175.00 in oil seals and shift bushings and that's about it.

I do all of my own work, including A/C so I am probably a bad example, but for 9400 it was listed as excellent body, and fair interior, all of which are true.

Now there was another listed that I drove, it was an 82 Euro, only it had a serious issue unknown "supposedly" to the seller, the rear quarter had been replaced and the body seams did not lign up, coupled with odd tape lines in the door jambs spelled major body damage, in fact a few others I looked at had suspicous tape lines in areas as well. It's amazing what people try and cover up.

Her's what $9000 bought me a month ago. Ran and shifted really rough until I realized a motor mount was not connected! $5 at home depot for a nut and some washers and it runs like a dream. 72 911T 111,000 miles pretty clean, no rust, runs real strong

I couldn't agree more. I was mostly surprised to see an SC badge on the lid.
