This has always been my dream car. Although it would probably end up as the garage queen as I continued to actually drive the P-cars.

I'd go for a Ferrari 275 GTS NART spyder, a 250 GTO or a Lamborghini Miura.

Supercars are great but ….

I like Steve’s criteria; “If I had to choose 1 car and 1 car only, and that car would be my only car for the next 10 years….”

I would buy a 997 (not S) plain non-sunroof coupe with lots of items deleted – the KISS principal. At 15K/year that is 150,000 miles and with good maintenance that should be easily obtainable.

What you get is 2005 high end technology in a plain, regular 911 for daily driving. I want to consider what it will be like at 150K in 2015 and the things necessary to have it still healthy.

First is good maintenance, nothing deferred. If something needs attention, fix it. Change the oil more often than spec.

Drive it sensibly and always on the defense. The risk is some nut runs the stop sign and T-bones you. A 997 will stand the impact better than most. If it gets seriously trashed – replace it.

House it properly. Every automobile benefits from being out of the elements when parked.

Drive it on the track as it was intended. For the cost of more tires and brakes, you can have a ½ day at the track every other week or so and keep you and the 997 happy. Assuming 40 laps @2 miles that is 260 weeks X 40 laps X 2 miles = 21K miles. A well maintained 911 can handle that just fine over 10 years.

At 150K and 10 years if no one has run into you, it is original paint with some chips and minor dents. It should be running well and possibly be good for another 100K. Trade for a new 2016 911.

Best,
Grady

If I really couldn't drive any other car during the 10 year run, I'd want an MTM RS6 Avant. If I could keep my truck for hauling things, a 959 (or a 288GTO Evo).
