Question Restart issues

After my I have driven my 83 sc and it has completey warmed up I occaisonally have a restart issue. The engine will crank 4-6 seconds and then upon firing a good size white plume of smoke appears and the exhaust. I am wondering if this is some sort of fuel issue. Again this is a inconsistent problem. Any suggestions?
