I think you should keep the car, 'cuz I am certain you'll miss it! ![]() ![]() Those wheels are perfect, I think....it's my choice, and should get done this winter, probably by Al Reed. ![]() It's only money.......... .......and mine doesn't even HAVE a long hood......... ![]() |

klaucke,
Thank you for the explanation! So, if I ever have mine refinished I should leave the black line where it is to stay authentic?

I recently bought a pair of 7 x 16 locally- [history unknown] and they appear to be totally powder coated[I think]
Very nicely done and very low maintenance. I have the other two coming from a Pelican in the US,will be interesting to compare and decide which to change. ![]() |

While this thread resurfaced I managed to score a 6X15 to use for a spare as the first phase of my trunk detail. Unlike the wheels on my car which weren't in too bad shape this one had lots of minor nicks and pitting.
I spent a couple of hours sanding the lip starting at 100 grit. I didn't get 'em all but it still turned out pretty well. ![]() ![]() I also shot the back with Rustoleum #7777 to clean that up too ![]() The matching set: ![]()

Looks very good kilodawg!
I am partial to the satin look and the easiest way to achieve that is some elbo grease and scotch brite.... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Chris, you and I seem to share a taste in cars, unfortunately for me though we don't seem to share the cash, skills or spare time. Congratulations on a job well done. ![]()

That was the first step I did and it is too raw and uneven. You really need to polish them down a bit and then glass bead the wheel. This finish looks cool for a couple weeks but it attracts all kinds of stain and dirt. The answer is to re-anodize the blasted finish...which is exactly what Al Reed and Harvey are doing.

I have tried many things and I really believe the anodizing is the best long term solution to the blasted or rough look. I had sixteen wheels all anodized at the same time at a shop in Seattle and it was only like $100.
The scotch brite look seems to hold up very well and when it does start to get dirty or stain you can just rub it down quickly with scotch brite again.... but you can't do that with a blasted surface.

See my "Economy RSR finish" thread.... for possible alternatives to sending out. Wiedman himself was invited to participate in the thread...nice guy...gave us advice even at the possible expense of lost-sales!

Not mine, but here is a fine example of black paint only in the vees. This fine SWB car was parked in the Porsche Corral at the Laguna Seca ALMS race.
