"Cindyduck" Welcome aboard. That's what I would holler to my wife whenever I'd tack or gybe...sometimes "ready about" didn't work...

Welcome, Mike....I'm almost in MI (South Bend, IN) and I grew up in SW lower Mich (a little town called Buchanan).

Regarding 911nut's comments about galvanizing......did Porsche just do a better job that US automakers, then? I mean, how often do you see a rusty SC-or-later 911? Now ask yourself how often you see rusty 1979 Chevys/Fords/Chryslers. Okay, granted, those cars are not generally cared for as well as Porsches are, but still......

That was funny Paul .

Mike, where are you near Saginaw Bay? I grew up there and my mother still lives at Linwood Beach. I try to make it out there a couple of times a year.

When I get home from work tonight I will get a couple of pics with her and the SC. I live between KawKawlin and LInwood, only people from around here will understand that. Everybody say kawkawlin, its fun.
If any of you want to shoot some quackers let me know, we have some great hunting around here and there is always room for more guns. Or if you want duck breast that can be areanged, A and B cup only.
I like the pic of the teal, my wife bought me a carving just like that at the DU banquet the other night.
Thank you for the warm welcome,

Mike P.S. we need to have a Pelican event around here, Herreck park in Saginaw?

Advanced Tech.

In response to 911nuts post, Ya iI think Porsche was way a head of the US companies. During the mid to late 80's I was a Mechanic at a shop in Saginaw and I worked on all that crap. Ever hear of a Verijet? Most people havent but they drove cars with them. Talk about problematic. Ford and Chrysler had an answer " Lets run 1000 feet of vacuum line add some sensless actuators, and bump Diagnosic by 15% that will boost the ole profit margin".
Who could forget cross fire injection, in the IROC, WOW 245 HP out of a 5.7, not exactly pin you in the seat performance.
Porsche had performance and reliabilty meeting Emmision criteria, The big three did what they had to get by and keep loyal people
in thier product.
Im sorry but a 79 corvett is lame compaired to my SC. I have driven them both and the vett is seriously lacking handleing and acceleration.
The big three have stepped it up recently, although I cant seem to get anyone to let me take a new 911 for a drive. Maybe someday.

Mike

Mike
I sold my '76 Corvette after a test drive in a '79 SC. The HVAC of the Corvette was it's best feature, unfortunately.
As I recall, an SC was $7-9K more than a Corvette. I'm sure that if GM had thrown more $$$ at the Corvette it would have been a better performer back then.
GM throttle body FI was as performance sapping as K-Jet but was ahead of K-Jet and an indication of where engine fuel systems were headed in the future.
All galvanized cars will rust eventually. I think that 911's don't get the same year-round use as every day cars and that's why there's so many around today.
