RSR Clone - Help me get my T/S Working

I am in the process of rewiring my RSR clone and have gotten most of the exterior and instrument lights working but I can't figure out why my T/S don't work. Can someone please help me figure out how they are supposed to function?

As I mentioned, my running lights, headlights, high beams, emergency flasher and headlight flash all work. My T/S do illuminate with the key turned off with the T/S stalk switched left and right as they are supposed to. My problem is that the T/S switch does not activate the flasher relay and I can't figure out why. I have verified that the T/S switch does function properly and I assume that the flasher relay is OK because the emergency flashers work OK. I do notice however that the frequency of the flashers is too fast and when I remove any one of the bulbs in the system the frequency returns to normal. Also the indicator light on the tach does not flash when the flashers are activated.

I understand how the flasher relay is supposed to work from reading all the previous posts on this subject. One question I have is, how does the T/S switch power the relay? The relay is supposed to be powered through terminal 49 which then activates the on/off output signal through terminals 49a and C. This happens when the emergency flasher switch is activated sending power from terminal 30 to terminal 49 on the flasher. How does the flasher receive power when the T/S switch is activated?

I am guessing that I may not be getting the on/off signal to terminal C on the flasher relay when the flashers are activated and this is causing my frequency problem and the failure of the tach indicator light to function. I can check this next time I'm out in the garage. My question still remains... How is the turn signal system supposed to work and specifically what in the T/S system provides power to the T/S relay?

My turn signal switch wasn't working... and then for some reason, started working again. I pulled the signal relay behind the fuel/oil capacity gauges, and also pulled and reseated a small round unit next to it. I think it is some sort of relay or control unit.

I'd opine that if you move a bulb and something changes, it's probably a connection or ground issue.

I have not yet, but will sometime soon, pull my turn signal switch unit and clean it out. No one has recommended what to clean it with.. I'd try something alchohol based that will evaporate quickly, and probably some compressed air. I'd then check all of the connections and try to clean them out. Corrosion on wires and contacts can cause all kinds of electrical boogers.

Tom,
I just tackled this on my project (RSR look). The relay actually powers the switch. So......Power comes from the turn signal relay to the emergency flasher switch and the turn signal switch. It is a black wire with green and white tracers. The power will be jumping between zero and 12V, hence the flash. From there it goes through the turn signal switch out that and up to the fuse box. At the fuse box, both front and rear are tied in at the fuse itself (black with green tracer and black with white tracer, I believe). Email me, and I'll send back a phone number. It may be easier to talk you through it.

Well guys you can stop scratching your heads on this one. My problem was in the 3 amp power supply I was using to power the system in order to avoid frying any wires. The combination of the flasher relay and the 21W bulbs in the turn signals was trying to pull more that 3 amps and shorting the power supply. The frequency of the flashers was being set by the reset frequency in the power supply. I hooked up my battery and all seems fine. Turn signals and flashers work.

I had a flashback too. Deja vu all over again.

The flashback had pictures though. Might be a long lost brother separated from birth? You know, the classic "twins separated at birth, but destined to meet again due to some "turn" of events.

Sorry for the outburst,
Sherwood
