Opinions - Is it wrong to be a poser? - also paging MikeZ

OK, to put it in perspective, I love in Toronto...where the level of pre-996 P-Car ownership is very low so I don't think there are too many purists to question my homage to the P-Cars of the past

Also, don't get me wrong, I love my 911SC.

But if I add a ducktail and then a Carrera script to the side and maybe a Carrera RS sticker on the ducktail....and maybe a set of Carrera RS floor mats.....am I a chump?

Paging Mike Z......Have a look at my car, how do you think it would look with a black Carrera side stripe? Is my dark blue too dark for the Carrera script or do you think it will look nice & subtle?

First of all, very cool colour. What's it called?

Secondly, just do it!! You'll bring a bit of California flavour to Ontario and be the only one doing it.

My .02.
It is your car to do with what you choose. Who cares what someone else thinks? As long as you are not trying to pass it off as a real RS, I don't see an issue. Mine is kind of a mix of semi-lightweight, race car yet with a few amenities. Not even close to original and probably never will be again.
BTW-I am not a big fan of Targas but yours is a nice one. I'd add a ducktail and call it good.

Your car is beautiful! Do with it as you wish, but I'd leave it just as it is!

At first, I didn't think the black would work. And you didn't ask me anyway, but I think it will. Are the headlight rings to stay black? Are they sort of a matt black? You could ask Mike if he has material that is not glossy.

You could also trim the duck out in a matt black outline ala the Carrera and Turbo tails. I don't think anyone is doing that yet either.

That is a GREAT looking car. I added Carrera script to my car, liked it for about a week, then took it off...didn't seem right. A duck would great, I have one and it think balances the car out better...IMO.

IMHO I wouldn't do the script. the duck is fine. But the early car look just doesn't always transfer to the impact bumper cars and the RS is one of the most unique of all P-cars.

You have a nice ride. Make it unique and ignore anyone trying to claim that "pure" judgement position.

The following is just my opinion and worth just slightly less that 2 cents, take it for what it's worth:

It is wrong to pretend you have something you don't. case in point, last saturday a guy showed up in a Ruf, turns out it was a 996 that he spent a fortune on and badged it as a Ruf, just so he could pretend to have something he didn't. It was still a very nice car and I would love to have it, but if it were mine I'd rip the RUF badge off of it.

But.... if you have a reproduction or a clone, it is a different story. A clone is basically a tribute to the original and as long as you don't present it as anything more than a clone, thats OK.
IMO a clone doesn't have to be 100% correct, the look is OK, as long as you don't pretend it is the real thing.

A ducktail on an SC is cool, almost nostalgic.
i like that. But when you start putting RS stickers on your car and it isn't a long hood, you lost me.
I hate bogus stickers, reminds me too much of the 16 years olds running around in hondas.

There a tons of pre 996 P-cars in TO. DO you belong to PCA? Its Upper Canada Region there and they have alot of track events,AX, etc. Thats where you'll see the "cool cars".

Since the SC is a SUPER Carrera...I don't see the problem. As to RS badges....well, mine is in the process of a backdate....so still don't see a problem.

As to the RS clones.....my 3.6 powered SC cabriolet kicks their butts...weighs about the same since I have lightened it.....

That's my story and I'm sticking to it....

As to vinyl side scripts....I can do anything ya want....

On YOUR car.....silver would be nice and understated.

Jeez, Sam, he doesn't want to own a fake RUF, he just wants to put some graphics on the car. Lots of 911s were called Carreras.

I'll agree with you on the RS part, though. That's a bit beyond generic. I'll send you the .02, now.

I just threw out my opinion, i didn't say it was right
Carrera decals are OK on an SC (don't know why you would want to downgrade) IMO, but RS is something special and pushes the limit and doesn't belong on anything except an RS or an RS clone.

I wonder what would happen if I put a 917 sticker on my car?

Paul,

Here's a blue example of what you want to do. I think it looks great! This belongs to Sushinav. Notice he took off the rocker panels and added the script. Remember what SC stands for - Super Carrera - so the sticker would not be a lie.

I'm not shy about straying from the herd. I'd go with a duck for the fun, maybe even getting a second grill to keep original intact. I'm not sure of RS with the rockers and impacts.

I'm with Paul, really like that color with matching targa bar......really a coupe guy, but your's makes me rethink that a little. How about just PORSCHE in a black to match your trim.
