How to remove Head temp sensor?????

Rebuilding my 3.2 with 156,000 miles.During teardown,got to pulling sensors,switches,etc. from engine.Head temp. sensor is installed into pocket on side of head & has attached wire on sensor.Because of wire,can't use regular deep well socket,b/c of clearance around sensor can't get boxend wrench or open end on it either

Sent heads & cams to EBS with sensor still in.Apparently,they had issue getting it out also.Ruined sensor in process.Oh Well,add $59 to the tab.What is correct tool for this??
Best as I could judge,something like a o2 sensor socket w/ a slot cut out would appear to work but couldn't find one in correct size which is 14mm??Do I need to sacrifice a 14mm deepwell to the cause or anyone know where to find one.Have looked around some,Craftsman,Snap-On,McMaster-Carr etc....No Luck

Anyone?????

Just talked to Don @ EBS.....all new valves needed....so much for the budget rebuild

These can probably be purchased from Snap-On, Matco, etc., but for the $$ difference and time expended, I'd suggest a Craftsman 14mm, 6 pt. deep sockect and cut a slot up the side for this project. We use this setup at the shop and it works just fine.

Did check the snap-on catalog @ work.Didn't see it in there.Thats ok.Found an older 14mm socket to modify.Thanks for the response.

Two local shops also recommend this method to me also. Easier to accomplish with cut off wheel than hack saw!

If you are going to replace the sensor anyway, you can just cut the wire and use a normal socket.

I just cut a box end wrench, 14 mm or if you do not have metric, use a 9/16. Cut a slot into the box end to pass the wire through. Works great.

I used a 6 point 9/16" deep socket and chop sawed a slot in it stopping just prior to the square drive...

all the heads have a sensor hole, so you can use any of them as #3. be careful not to tighten the new one too much. they snap off. then you have to get the threaded part out again.
