Porsche Crest Another 3.6 Swap/Conversion for the Archives

I got roped into a 3.6 conversion due to my weakness for collecting wheels and the fact that i'm a really nice guy/pushover for wrenching on the Porsches.

The plan? Bernie (einreb) buys a car with the 3.6 conversion already done and swap it into einreb's '88 3.2 Coupe. The deal? In exchange for my two car garage, my tools, help, and "expertise" yeah right.......... I get some very nice Al Reed refinished polished lip, black centered 16x7, 8 Fuchs.

Some of you will recognize the donor car. It's pbs911's '78 SC Targa.

Here's where it started.

Pelican Classified Post

Here's the car. But who cares about the car. All we want is the motor! Heh heh. It’s a hotrodded 964 3.6 with LW clutch setup and B&B headers w/ Fabspeed-Flowmaster muffler. All sorts of goodies from Patrick Motorsports and Steve Timmons’ Instant G Co.

The car arrived at my place on Mon. June 27 on a flatbed from Cali. Took some time on lunch hour (3 hrs.- they were late, imagine that……..) to take delivery of the car. So of course I had to drive it around the block before I headed back to work. I figured I may not get to drive it before we started to take things apart!!! Who knows? Maybe it’d never go back together again???

The 'bird is a pretty cool car. A little rough around the edges, but it drives very good. Being the clean freak I am, I had to wash it. I didn't want Bernie to think he got screwed. The thing was MEGA dirty from transit.

My car(s) got booted on account of the outpatient transplant procedure

I have a newfound respect for you 915 guys. I guess i'm a wimp. 'Cause that trans. can kiss my skinny white........ Between the short shifter, the LW clutch/flywheel setup, and the AJ USA dead pedal (tight fit down there with all those pedals) shifting that thing smoothly and consistently is some work!!!! Once the trans. warms up it's more agreeable. But didn't drive it long enough to get the car too warm. I didn't wanna get arrested, nor wreck Bernie's new toy! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t make some noise with the tires though………..

It's a quick one. NOTICEABLE difference in low-end torque from a 3.2. And the B&B w/Fabspeed wails like a race car. WOW. Definitely turns alot of heads- for both sound and looks. Those Fikse wheels look BAD too.

More to follow. The “fun” is just starting.............
