Probably ignition switch....
So after kicking Ingo's butt in a drag race, the engine refused to shut down when the key switch was turned off....
Ignition switch going bad? Had to kill the motor by letting out the clutch with the brake on....what say you guys?

Electrical module on the back of the ignition switch? Pain in the ass to replace for an old fat guy (me). Take the seat out and lay blankies in the floorboard.

Anyway to test it instead of tossing parts at it?

Possibly using a remote starter might tell you if its the switch or not. If it starts and stops ok, its the ignition switch.

What a pain in the arse, I still havn't got to that top screw. I made a flat head driver out of an allen but I can't see it. I took off the break away bolts and she still won't come out. Looks like it's tied to the steering column also. That wasn't in Wayne's 101 book.
Now what? I don't want to give up but 2hrs on this aAny help would be appreciated.Thanks, Rick

I didn't push it 'cause I was afraid that body parts would be flying off your ride. You never know considering they hooked the turn signals to the headlights.

I bought a DeWalt electric screwdriver bit that was the perfect length from Home Depot. You will need to push on it with your finger as you turn the shank with a small wrench. Took a long time but finally got it, also found it helpful to remove the seat. Not a job for the impatient.

Thanks Walt,
I'll try that, I've cut down some small screw drivers but they haven't been quite the right size. It's not to bad with the seat in as long as you have a pillow/prop for your head in that upside down position.

Rick,
If you're trying the get the entire switch out, it is tied to the column. The is a 13mm lock nut with an allen set screw that holds the column lock boom in place. It's a real PIA to get to, but I completed mine this weekend. Main thing I read was DO NOT back the allen set screw all the way out cuz it's difficult to rethread. Good luck. |

My switch went bad - it wont turn all the way to the crank position.
So all I did was purchase the new electrical switch part and plugged it into the loom. Large phillips and I'm good to go.... as long as I don't forget the steering lock PS did you check the bulbs? electrical issues {Strange}

Well I got the electrical device out and that was not it
![]() It seems the mechanical part of the switch (where the key goes in) is askew somehow. It's either off line or semi worn inside. I put the new one on and it wouldn't even fire the engine. I re-installed the old one and she cranked up fine but would not shut her down..You Biaaatch I loosened the 13mm lock nut and the allen set screw until it fell out and the entire ignition still will not come out (the breakaway bolts are out). What the F*#$. I'm lost, I'm guessing it's going to the shop for the first time for something I can't fix.... I'm bumed because it just came out in the Car Trader today as she's for sale!
