Are you referring to the 84 Euro?

stv951 09-11-2006 05:40 AM

Yeap...

84Euro 09-11-2006 06:41 AM

I was not sure either at first, I needed some touch up paint and order a small amount from Paintscrstch.com and it matched perfectly. The color was 84 Porsche Ruby Red.

3.6 Conversion to my 2200lb 71 RS Clone should be finished today. Going to VIR over the weekend, we'll see how she does! 96 993 Varioram with 21k, Sachs Clutch, Rebuilt 915 with new LSD, Short Shifter with reverse lockout, pics to follow. All work done by Air Cooled Classics in Knoxville, TN, engine and kit supplied by Steve Timmins, Instant-G. This puppy should be quick.

My 911 was the same color before an accident. We were sideswiped by a semi that took out the right side of the car. Both fenders and such and I was tired of the color, so switched it to silver, my favorite color and love the car even more.

Being in a part of the world where dark is even hotter, the dark color just did not work out. I still like it, but like silver more.

Hey jfoulds,
Let us know how she goes! You will love it, I am sure!
Give it some time because the carbon build up needs to be burnt out of it, now that the air pump is gone and the brain has been set to the 'HOT' position! Run minimum 95 octane in it [they really like 100!] and the beast will run and growl!

Well, I'm currently impatiently awaiting my conversion flywheel from Dr Timmins, so count me in as well, my car is an 86 with a 96 v-ram.
Not to beat a dead horse, but as far as the exhaust issue is concerned, I have the gillet HE's, and the 17725 crossflow dynomax I bought is just way too long to even fit in between the flanges.
I am thinking, if there's space, I will just use the muffler and fab up pipes from the HE flanges, that go around the muffler and into it from opposite sides. If there's no space, I need to look for a muffler that is much shorter, or a muffler that has the inlets in the middle, kinda like a factory sport muffler, only having the inlets closer together near the centre. I like the crab, but I can't justify paying sooo much for a muffler either!
Now if there's a way to have it so that I can have the two tips coming out from under the license plate...

Hey Mike the Mechanic,
Cut off the flanges that are on the stock cats, get the 3" resonator tips from Timmins [he will give you the numbers so that you can order them yourself], weld them onto the cat and you will have a very good [and mean] sounding [not to mention smog legal] and free flowing exhaust! Hot rod guys are continually complimenting me on the great sound at idle. My wife is okay with it so it must not be too bad! Before you go the 'cut and chop' route, give it a try...the tips are about $35.00 apiece and are made from stainless steel.
I have spoken with the people who do Timmin's reprograming and they concur with a minimum octane of 95 to run these engines. Put in 100 octane and it will turn into a growling beast!
Your car is going to be 'scary fast'. You will not be disappointed! Enjoy!

Here is mine. Originaly a '76 S....it has taken a hell of work and $$$... but I do not regret any minute or cent spent.

I am proud of having done all the work myself (including the body work and paint), and it is amazing how much I have learned since I started. Needless to say, it would have been impossible without the help of the people of this board...and in particular the ones participating on this threat. THANKS

As I once read in this forum, anyone with $$ can buy a new 911, only a few can build up these beasts.

Here goes a pic.

Mines got a '97 Vram, 22/29 Sanders hollow torsion bars, stock sways, polybronze front and rear, 930 turbo brakes, Quaife torque biasing diff, 7.5" & '9 BBS's that fit without spacers, custom transcooler/circulation system, new top by Carsinc, new windshield and seal, new balljoints, new bilsteins front and rear, Timmons install kit with Sachs powerclutch, new TO bearing, new pinion shaft bearing, all new synchros and dog gears Wevo gateshift kit.

After all this work it's for sale. Need money.

Has anyone tried the route of coring out a 993 cat and turning the innards into a muffler? It seems like the ends could be sliced off and redone fairly easily. I'm looking for something that would be reasoably quiet.
The fit would be pretty certain. Maybe not the prettiest solution, but functional.

I haven't tried it myself, the one person that I spoke to that did try it said that it was a disaster and destroyed the cat.

Supposedly the factory did design it so that the cat innards could be replaced.

William Miller 12-01-2006 11:57 AM

That was good thinking on their part. I've seen in one of the parts diagrams that they have two sets of flanges that are sold seperately that clamp onto a Cat that comes without the flanges. I assume that could have been to deal with the fact that the heat exchangers came from two different sources. What's the history with that?

I think I confused you. I am just looking at another option on a muffler without the cat. My car's exempt in Maryland because it's titled Historic.
No inspections, no emissions tests. I'm really trying to come up with a simple, inexpensive and relativly quiet solution for those using 993 heat exchangers. Every time I look at the options that are out there, this keeps popping into my head. I keep wondering... Has someone tried this? Can it be done?

Bill Verburg 12-01-2006 12:07 PM

The most elegant and likely mellowest i've seen w/ 993 headers is the Steve Weiner setup seen here at Rennsport Systems.

William Miller 12-01-2006 12:17 PM

I'm pretty sure that won't fit with the 993 aluminum heat cross over piece. It might be the picture, but that looks different from the engine mount that I have. Nice looking but how much $$?
