Hey Drums, thanks for the info, but I don't have the factory cat, it didn't come with my engine! I think thats what i would have done... unless I can find a cheap cat somewhere?? I don't think it'll be too loud for me, as my last setup was two dump tubes out of the turbos! Also, I know it'll be fun and quick, but not really scarey fast. This engine has less than half my last motor's output! but i really like the cat idea... It's really surprising how resonated tips affect sound.

Cut off the flanges that are on the stock cats, get the 3" resonator tips from Timmins [he will give you the numbers so that you can order them yourself], weld them onto the cat and you will have a very good [and mean] sounding [not to mention smog legal] and free flowing exhaust! Hot rod guys are continually complimenting me on the great sound at idle. My wife is okay with it so it must not be too bad! Before you go the 'cut and chop' route, give it a try...the tips are about $35.00 apiece and are made from stainless steel.
I have spoken with the people who do Timmin's reprograming and they concur with a minimum octane of 95 to run these engines. Put in 100 octane and it will turn into a growling beast!
Your car is going to be 'scary fast'. You will not be disappointed! Enjoy!

Get a hold of Timmins and ask him where it is.....it should have been included in the price of the engine.
He is good about sending things.....the original air filter box didn't come with the engine but I needed it to pass smog [even if we had to hack it to pieces to get it in the engine compartment] and he sent it, no charge. Ask him, I bet he will send you one.

1987 3.6 G-50

Here is my Red 1987 with a 3.6 and a G50 Trans. I got it from Mark Kinninger from San Diego a Porsche Tech at The Black Forest. The Blue car in the back is also a car he built with a 3.6, that was in Excellence May 2008. He went through the engine and it runs super strong. I love it!

Interesting to see how soon these pioneers discovered that with the increased HP the need for suspension mods was imperative....

Hi Chris,
Drove that car the day before it left, awesome.
He builds so many of these, hate to see them leave.
I'm still thinking of trading my TL for something like that.
You know you have a new local track just past Dripping I think.

Send us some video if you go!
Are you working at a Porsche shop again?
btw am I right. you are a factory trained Porsche mech?

Video of the blue 3.6 RSR shot from my own 3.6 conversion. cat and mouse.
Blue car has a passenger otherwise similar, 2400lbs, wide Hoosiers on both.
Blue car has airport gears for the AX, he's in 5th at end of the short front straight.

Just threw in some exhaust shots from the two cars. They are bolted to European headers.Muffler is 2.5" and straight through.Very quiet at low revs with no resonance and shreiks above 5k.

So what would a budget be something like this.

Motor, harnesss, oil cooler and fan: $7k.
Conversion parts $3k. (clutch, cat bypass, muffler, oil cooling, etc?)
Sell my solid 3.2 , harness, fender cooler $5k.

Net cost about $5k if I do most my self?

Or am I low?

Sorry about that.
Mark I'm glad you were in the car to judge the cause of the busted CV.
"me"
Having too much power in a (turbo) 911 was new to me.

A 3.6 conversion makes so much sense, that why you've been building/selling 2/3 - 3.6 cars a year since?
Question is what form of street legal 911 will Mark "skid-mark" build over the next 3 months?

Can we please get a better picture of your blue RSR?

Mark "it's both a license plate and a widescreen A/F meter".

Gotta go, too busy to post.
Both 3.6 street cars.
My green and white 3.6 conversion.

Ted,
Thanks for the info about the track in Dripping Springs. That is only 12 miles from my house!
I plan on checking it out. I would like to get the local Porsche club more involved in racing. I am going to be more involved in the club now that I have the Red Car.
I am a factory trained Porsche tech. I retired from it in 2004.

We'll never know, the destroyed plate is a bit a humor on an otherwise PERFECT 911, from the builder and arguably the best Porsche mech in San Diego.
no bull.

His street muffler set up is the Bullet in the photo above.

Turns out the plate may have protected the bumper paint nicely, by design?
The blue car dominates with countless Top Times of Day at the San Diego AX events.

Mark was just funning with those of us with the bumper center exit straight pipes.

Chris, ted = tall Mike, Mark had sent me to look at your black 82? 911 years ago when you opened MOM near Mirage.
Consider a cheapy video camera for the track.

Mark got a photo of the RSR at SOW?
Ride along in the blue RSR.
I think Mark payed $100 for this camera, his camera is about as worthless at the rear plate.

ok so i might just be an idiot and straying from this conv, but im curious as to why the c4s's back deck looks so much differant than the regular carrera for the 993 generation, is it a differant cooling system , my mechanic has a built 993 motor with a chip straight pipes and some other goodies i cant remember and im kind of trying to get a feel for it
