1983 911SC Euro Targa, 930/10 motor stock except for SSIs, 161,000 km, 24 mpg highway, 20 around town, during summer.

77S - 22MPG on my recent run from North of Seattle to Portland Raceway for the ALMS. Two people + luggage, etc., mostly 70-80mph cruising with occasional triple-digit motorhome passes.

'73 911T targa with '86 3.2L.... consistantly getting 27mpg. About 75% of my driving is highway miles and I do get on it when I have the opportunity. Can you believe this is my "economy car"!

With gas prices though, I am going to have to start riding the motorcycle more often.

85 Carrera, about 20 overall on regular.

1987 TurboLook Carrera, completely stock, 91,000 miles, 18-20 in town on 92 octane gas. Gas in NC went up 30 cents overnight, and my neighbors filled up their minivan last night on the 4th try after hitting three gas stations in a row that were out of gas.

I'll be riding my bicycle to work tomorrow.

1977 / 930 (3.0L) / 302,000 on chassis / ~8K Mi on total engine rebuild/ 12 MPG hiway (5 MPG when dipping into the boost) / 91 octane (major $$ ouch, but I'm still going to hit 4 track days this month! ;) ) Can you say "addiction"?

My car has an odometer in miles, but here in Canada, our gas is in litres.

I have a stock 81' SC.

How many gallons does it hold?

I think I can get about 67 litres in the tank.

79 SC - 13mpg around town, but it does really well on the highway, not sure of the numbers.

1 US gallon=3.785L
1 imperial gallon=4.546L
assuming a 17 gallon (US) tank, =64.345L

Recently ran from Atlanta to Philadelphia...850 miles.

Used 31.5 gallons of gas or 27 MPG. This was also running the A/C for about 30% of the time.

I have an 86' Carrera with 140,000 which gets about 17 aound town adn 28 on the road. If I drive 60-65 it does better. Coasting helps alot. I noticed a definate improvement with Synthetic Oil. Keep the air up on the tires, elimate the air conditioning, reducing weight and waxing the car also improves mileage. If you go to extreme you could use syn oil and grease and improve 5-10%.

It is hard to drive 65 when all of those Hundais and Geos want to go 80. Sometimes you just have to "turn it on" but you do pay the price when the mileage drops.

I was wondering, since we are on the subject, how performance upgrades (exhaust, chip, higher compression, ignition, intake mods) affect mileage? There should be improvement in mileage if the engine can run leaner with higher octane gas. Also improved combustion efficiency and reduced friction should improve mileage.

My '88 had a 22.5 or 23.5 gallon tank.

Sorry, I don't know about the later year's tank capacity...my 77 930 has a 17 gal tank....wrong assumption on my part.

I just finished 2200 miles going up the California, Oregon and Washington Coast with my wife and light luggage. I checked the mileage almost every tank. The worst was 22 MPG and the best was almost 26 MPG. I was not driving real hard and was taking in the scenery most of the time but I did have my moments of excitement.

I'm sure the Steve Wong chip and SSI's helped.

Paul, How much did the chip help..what was your mileage before? I think it should be better because the chip reduces top end rich levels. Also did you do anything else to improve air flow?

DG624, sorry, I bought the car and immediately tore it apart and restored it. I only put 80 miles on it with the old parts. From the looks of the above posts, I guess I should be jumping for joy with the mileage I am getting. I do want to repeat that most of my driving was sight seeing up and down the coast.

Also, I know Steve bumps the timing up which really helps part throttle driving. I have been using mid grade gas.
