My SC ROW could have a fuel efficient MPG if I drove it mildly.
But I feel it's better economy to drive the car the way it wants to be driven and not have to pay for a carboned up engine to be rebuilt. |

my '88 with spoilers got 27mpg on the stock wheels with sticky tires and a high flow muffler while road-tripping with two people in the car
more recently it got 24mpg on 8's & 9's with really sticky tires driving solo on the same road trip

I saw a recent post on another car forum that said if your car got 10mpg and fuel doubles would you care? Most admitted they wouldnt since they only drove about 5000 miles at the most.

I penciled out at 27mpg on a drive out to see my brother a few years ago. There was a lot of playing done along Route 50. Hindsight being what it is, I wish I had played a little less. I ran out of gas about a mile and a half from the gas station I was planning to stop at! Nothing like stopping in someone's driveway in a Porsche 911 and asking "can I buy some gas from you?" Lesson? When the fuel level shows low, just fill up. The warning light might not work.

Trust the light, not the meter. At least...when the bulb is working.

This part summer while running a well tuned and performing CIS on my stock 77 I clocked 28mpg driving from Chicago to Milwaukee at the speed limit due to the numerous lawmen maki g the state it’s money.
On the way back my mileage dropped precipitously but my speed was 3 digits the whole way.

'88 3.2 with 190k, Steve Wong chip, cat bypass and M & K exhaust.
Get 18-19 puttering around town and 22-25 cruising. Got a whopping 26.7 MPG across NV and Utah using cruise control. Rarely track my gas mileage, but do on occasions to keep an eye on things.

2.7 with RS P&C, E cams and 40mm PMOs. On track at Mont Tremblant/St Jovite maybe 4-5 mpg. 4 20 minute sessions drain it!

1985 3.2 Carrera with Steve Wong chip, 964 cams, and a replaced 5th gear from earlier 911 to give me a taller 5th gear. I do make long trips and at 75 and 80 (legal limit in parts of Oklahoma) I can roll along at 2,800 to 3,000 RPM and get 27 MPG.
For my return trips I always plan a fuel stop about 500 miles from home. With so many states requiring 10% gasohol I want to fill up at home with 100% gasoline. I can go 500+ miles using 10% corn gas. I have the stock 5th gear I guess I need too put on the for sale section. I am never going back. I love the taller 5th gear. And those trips were all done with the windows up, and the AC pumping out ice cold air on hot summer days.
