My first radar detector (S2)-any hints on 911 mounting location?
In light of my upcoming roadtrip to Road Atlanta, I finally bought a new Solo S2 cordless unit. With Laser detection needing line of sight, I'm concerned about the rear sensor clearing the rollbar crossbrace. It's hard to tell from the pics below, but it can "see" back thru the rear window, but if it had to look say 10 degrees to the left rear of the car, it would be obstructed.
I don't have much choice, and my thought was if someone behind was using LIDAR, they'd either be at the RH side of the road, or pacing me. Any opinions on how effective it will be? ![]() ![]()

That's where mine goes,, I wouldn't worry about lazer from behind and I don't think the K band is THAT sensitive as it bounces off everything..

I have exactly the same detector in my car. For X, K and Ka bands, I've heard the thing go off when laying on the seat and even locked inside the glovebox. So, the only thing you need to worry about is laser, and I've never heard of getting lasered from the rear. So, anywhere on the windshield is fine as long as you can see it light up when Smoky gets you.

Unless you happen to get a bounced signal from a rabbit in front of you, you are dead with Laser anyway.

Laser fans out a bit by the time it reaches the target......not a problem, Ed.

The problem with Laser is that since there is no warning, if you are the target, you are toast the moment your detector goes off.

Yessir. Run in a pack if possible - or have cars close by as you run faster than them. This way, you can pick up the laser 'spray' from other cars in front of you. Laser........she's a tough mistess.

I wonder how many cops will be passing out tickets in the next few weeks on I-20?
Why are you going to Road Atlanta?
