RSR project

Is this the right place to post photos of my RSR project car?

I would like to receive comments (good or bad) and suggestions from other pelicans about my car.

I posted some pics on the owners board but there was only space for 5 pictures.

Please advise.

Hi Johnny and yes this is a perfect place to post photos of your RSR project. I think you can post up to 4 pictures in one reply but you can post as many replies with pictures as you want. We would love to see them.

RSR Project

All comments welcome be they good or bad.

1965 RHD 912 ,converted to turbo body specs using original fenders and arches. Idea was to build a 3.0L RS replica using a 1975 2.7L mechanical injection motor (210hp) that i had in my 75 targa.

My 75 targa sold as a complete car and my project motor disappeared.I found an 1981 SC with a 1994 3.6 L C2 (964) motor, 915 trans and RUF wheels that I decided to use the parts and sell of the rest including the SC chassis. Worked started stripping the 912 chassis.

As the project is now quiet far along i will try and post about 4 photos every few days until we get up to date.

I like the catch up updates.
That's a fun way to present a project.
We get to see weeks of work completed as if in in only days.
I too have an RSR Pelican page.
Thanks for sharing, looking forward to your updates.

RSR project update 1

Thanks guys.

I have checked out both your cars and they both look like fantastic projects.

Rattlsnak that green is stunning, my second favourite colour, after Jagermeifter continental orange which is the colour my car will end up. I thought I saw your car for sale is that right, I want to be buried in mine i think, my wife says be careful i may get my wish sooner than i think.

As i had the photos and updates on hand i decided to post now so you did not have to wait, next lot will be next week though.

Please note as i am not very mechanically minded and am doing this project under the guidence of my mechanic you may think i am doing some strange things or have some strange ideas, feel free to laugh along with my mechanic who just waits till the dust settles and sorts things out properly.

Right next we did a quick check to see if the 3.6L motor would fit in this tight little 912 engine bay and how the RUF 17" rims would look on the short wheel base. My idea was still to build a sort of 3.0L RS replica as i have always loved the turbo body look but with a few extras, RUF rims, 3.6 motor and more.

As there was some rust on the car and after 2 weekends of hard labour trying to get that 1965 glue off the floorpan I decided in my wisdom to send the chassis for a dose of sandblasting treatment followed by a primer coat of red oxide to prevent more rust which appears very quickly here in SA.

Well that soon sorted out the glue, the rust, any cobwebs and showed up a few more rust spots i did not know were there. I must point out that i am a bit of a nutcase when it comes to cars and tend to go a bit over the top with project ideas, very eager with not much knowledge, a bit dangerous, much like my driving.

Will post more updates next week, comments, suggestions and advice always welcome.

No thats my mechanics garage and yes the french doors indicate it used to be part of the house.

His wife went away one weekend with the kids and the story goes that my mechanic needed the extra space, so when she returned she discovered the outside playroom wall had been knocked through to create extra garage space.

I do not think she has yet forgiven him.

Don and Tom both your cars are amazing and seem to have been done so perfectly, if my finished project ends up even half as good as either one of your cars i would be thrilled.

My continental orange colour looks very similar to your signal orange Tom, I did not realise the two colours were so similar.

More updates next week.

Thanks for looking.
