Another RS project. Mine! part 6

Well it seems like I havent gotten aywhere with it in the last year. With trying to open a business and not having the time and not wanting to spend the money on the car. With a Porsche it always works in incriments of a thousand dollars. I have seen alot of friends and family have alot of fun racing(bikes and cars) that I have been getting alittle jealous. With that said I have been trying to finish the car.

I had a rebuilt 2.4 that I was going to run for a while and realized that the smoking was not getting any better. I thought that I could just flog it but it didnt work. As you can see from my for sale stuff, the cylinders must have gotten some codinsation and the Brial cylinders rusted out a bit. With that said it was time for a new motor. What to buy.

I saw a post from Dave Winters who was selling a 3.2. We made a deal and I purchased his motor. I have been making preperations for the 3.2. I did a search on Pelican and made some notes about the conversion. Even though I hang out with Tyson, I dont want to take advantage of the friendship by bothering the guy about everything. He is just as enthusiastic about it and will either be hanging over my shoulder or just installing it himself. He does this stuff in his sleep.

I got a ST rollbar from Jeromy at TRE and I guess most of my parts. I did get some stuff from our sponser as well. Tom Gould from Pelican is a friend of mine.

Anyway, I thought I would share some pics in order to inspire some of you guys in the beginning steps of your project. Its a long road but when you start to see what the car can look like it makes it all worth while.

In the last week I have been doing all the little things like sealing up the cabin from wind in the front trunk with aluminium tape and 3M weatherproofing tar or sealant.

I am ready for the interior now. I installed a new headliner. Yes Wayne, I did buy your book and did get some tips from it. I let it hang for a week(was in no hurry). I started from the front by using 3M clips and worked me way to the back. I slowly stretched it out for a least a month the decided to glue it in place. I think jthat it is a 7 from 1 thru 10. Not bad for my first attempt. I would never even try a sunroof coupe. The horror! If I had to do it again, I would just have brought it to the TRE guys. I was just stubourn and wanted to do it myself.

Well brakes are in as well as all the pretty stuff. I am really happy with the way the front trunk came out. There are lots of little Tyson "EVIL" tricks on my car. THANKS MAN! I have to say that he is a preety smart guy. His thinking goes outside of what some of the old timer think and always ask the question "what if"? He always uses his car as a prototype and winds up using it on the cars that come into TRE. All of that knowledge was put into the building of my car.

She is looking fantastic Joseph! It has been a long road for you. I remember those conversations at the OTR days. It will all be worth it and then some once you do some canyon driving and make it out to the track with that girl. Your attention to the small items is really paying off and will be appreciated by the masses. I already see a few things I have to quiz you about when I see this project complete in person.

What is the little plastic bottle next to your brake fluid reservoir? A catch can?

I was talking about putting body plugs in the trunk and aluminium tape over the dash speaker. I guess it would be more of a concern if I lived in Alaska.

Thanks man. I think the main reason I posted was for some moral inspiration. I just kinda dumped the project for a while. I think there was a 4 month period that I didnt even go to the garage. I guess that we do with hobbies sometimes.

It is a catch tank for boiling brake fluid. Its a 5.00 bleeder from harbor freight. Its got a magnet that sticks on my RSR stut mount. I cant remember but there was a thread about it. Tyson said his worked when he ran Laguna.

Increments of $1000 - that's funny. That's what we say over here too. Seems anything you get done is in increments of $100. Also known as a G-boy.

I just did the rear brakes on my Jetta, plus a new windshield and seal, an oil change, new belts, a new muffler, shifter bushing kit with new shift rods. Less than $300, and that's Canadian. Got a bunch of parts from the wrecking yard too.

The Porshe is all worth it tho'

Nice project by the way. I wish I had the time and space and *gulp* cash. That looks like a few dozen individual "projects" you've got going there. What's a good used Lamborghini worth anyway ?

the level of detail on this car is really something you can only appreciate in person. Joe is a detail freak! he doesn't cut corners, ever. dude you will love a 3.2, it is a great balanced engine and in that car will be quick! good luck and see you in a few weeks.

the radio hole was covered by a plate that slides between the aluminium plate. as far as the ST bar, I can get more pics later.
