OK, will this Pi$$ some folks off?

What would happen if Pelican or PCA offered a Pin, Badge or some other recognizable symbol that indicated how long you have been driving a Porsche. (verifiable, of course)

I have seen and read where some Pelicanites have owned and driven P-Cars for over 30 years. I've got respect those folks as they have experienced the Marque through generations.

I think those folks should be recognized.

This is by no means intended to slight new to the Marque folks but help recognize who to ask questions and advice whenever there is a get together, DE, Auto-X etc...

OK...Flame suit is on....

I've owned various 356's, 912's, 911's, and yes, the real 550A,
since 1967 but, I don't feel the need for special recognition (or a pin).
I'll just keep owning and driving these most enjoyable cars!
That said, it might be viewed as a good idea by others.

I think it is a great idea. Kind like Bill Engvall's signs, just the folks in question pay for the honor.

Let me ask this then;

Should you encounter a person that has driven P-Cars for decades, would you want to initiate a conversation with that person? I would.

I think that many people new to Porsche (not all) don't have a clue as to the tradition of driving this Marque including salespersons at dealerships.

It's like passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation but the difference is there should be a level of respect here.

Why pass the baton to first time buyers that drive newer 911's and consider themselves the top of the chain...in reality they are just beginning to go where most of us have been.

Now, a seasoned P-Car owner that has made their way up the chain and upgraded to newer models but know how the car has evolved are a rare breed.

John, you don't know THE handshake ?

It is easy to tell how long time a Porsche guy has owned a Porsche - the older the car is the more he knows!

........I'm running - here THEY come!

My pins are really big, cumbersome to store, can only be worn in the temperate months, great to modify, many give a thumbs up, wave or smile when they see them, and they fit me just right.

How would you verify? I had 914s in my youth, but gave up the dream when I had the "little darlings". Now I have a '79 SC that completes me - or so it feels. I've been a P-car fan since watching P. Gregg at Lime Rock in the old IMSA/Trans-Am days, and I have particularly followed the racing exploits of Porsche. Am I not worthy?

A pin would add too much weight if you wear it whilst driving your porsche.

so somebody with a pin saying 30 automatically get's your respect? regardless of his behaviour?

and this automated respect is based on the assumption that a 30P deserves respect?? and the 30P is the indciator for turning on that respect??

i'm sure you'll have just as much chance of finding a *****head in the 30P group as you would in the 10 or f 5 P group...

it's not like owning a Porsche gradually turns you into a Zen Buddha over the course of the years...

people might get smarter or more sensible over the years, but that's not because of the Porsche , that's aging

lol, funny stuff..I got a certificate last month from PCA for being a member for 20 years. When I realized how much I gave them in dues, I felt short changed with silly piece of paper. A pair of 16x8 or 9" Fuchs would have been more appropriate.

It's too late for me now...

My wife (as a gag) had one made similar to the pin on one of my jackets. She swears that she's put up with my toys for many years and wants me to be reminded....ha ha

Just don't know if I want to wear it. I see from the posts that this is probably going to be a private thing....
