In terms of reliability, my dad has a 1968 Corvette (only the 327, 4spd) that he bought new that has over 350K miles on the original engine without a rebuild....

Cool, a vote for the Alfa!

Indeed, the Alfa's DOHC-4 was a very durable engine and, like our 6s, had a nearly indestructable bottom end. Their nemesis was oil leaks from the head caused by dissimilar metals expanding/contracting: alum head and block; iron cylinder liners. If you could ignore the oil leak, they would run on the track all day and on the street for close to forever (sounds kinda familiar, doesn't it ).
