If you don't like the looks of the Cayman, don't worry. The most any of us will ever see of one is probably going to be the tail lights. :D

JTO 09-28-2005 11:12 AM

I like the styling in general (sorta 904 elements to the front). But, until they start racing them and chocking up some wins, I will remain infatuated with the air cooled 911, in all of its variations!

i like it alot. would buy one in a quick second if i was able.

now that four door coming out, panermera or something like that...will take some getting used to.

Eli K 09-28-2005 11:19 AM

Same here. Love the car. The price tag...not so much....

Tom Wharton 09-28-2005 11:38 AM

I like it, into the future...very racy

Gene-o 09-28-2005 11:44 AM

I think it looks good. It's got just the right amount of "legacy" look about it to remind you that it is a Porsche but yet it is modern looking without looking Japanese.

Doug&Julie 09-28-2005 11:47 AM

Who cares what she looks like...I'm sure she'll have a "nice personality". :D

Elombard 09-28-2005 12:07 PM

No offense but these type of comments are tired. I agree with Tyson and others. I would be interested in hearing what cars the nay-sayers of the Cayman do like. I mean new cars. If none then get a grip, what business, especially car business could stay viable building the same car for 25 years...Oh I guess that is what Porsche did with the 911 :-)) Seriously though what would you have them do?? They race the Snot out of the 996, most air cooled hard cors dont like them - what else do you want??

I will start, what car, why I like.

I like
Elise, performance and price
Boxster performance, price, looks
99 996 performance, price, looks if its GT3 ish
F355 perfromance, price, looks (maintenance is scary though)
1987 - 2001 corvette perfromance and price and looks if Z06
350Z performance and price
Cayman, perfromance, price, looks pretty good to me too
S2000 price, performance, looks
Miata, handling, price, ~ looks

Dont like
F360 etc. too expensive
997 too expensive
other exotics - too expensive

I dont really even dream about high dollar cars any more, must be getting old :-))

new vette, too expensive

Here is a photochop of a Cayman with a duck "borrowed" from a thread on Ferrarichat...frankly I think all Boxsters should have ducks like this...looks cool IMO...

Hey Plavan, can you photo shop a " speed yellow " one for me to look at ?

thanks

I agree, Elombard, my comment is probably very tired, but I guess it is just yet another opinion against the Cayman. I was just hopeful that Porsche would come up with something just a tad more original, that's all.

Doesn't every Porsche look better with a duck JanusCole? ;)

Tom Wharton 09-28-2005 01:13 PM

Race car for the street, that color makes me smile and of course...wish I had the cash for one...Zoom, Zoom that!

JTO 09-28-2005 01:46 PM

Elombard,

Technically, nobody races the 996 with a 996 motor in it. All the GT3 RS etc have an engine based on the case of a 964 or a 993. Why? The 996 bottom end and oiling system can't handle the rigors of racing. That's why I don't like the water cooled Porsches; they are not longer true to the original idea of the 911.

I think the Cayman looks great , however I would love one with the current 997 Headlamps !.

ckissick 09-28-2005 01:59 PM

I think it's the best looking Porsche to be offered since 1973.

Tell that to the guys that race in the Grand Am ST/GS classes. Those are straight off the showroom floor. No GT3 motors in there.

You can find a ton of actual speed yellow pictures (and other colors) at www.caymanclub.net

Overall I like it...but I do think they could have gone a different route with the side vents...a little to ricey for me.

Scooter 09-28-2005 02:22 PM

Pink is in the eye of the beholder.

Drago 09-28-2005 02:24 PM

You've got pink eye?

Scooter 09-28-2005 02:26 PM

No, my eye is more of a coral redish color. ;)
