Actually, since no new Porsche comes from the factory with 0 miles on it, the only way I'd reduce the value that much is if I registered the vehicle. I don't believe putting a few miles on a car would drop it's value that much.

But I dunno...somebody give me a Z0whatever and I'll drive it 50-100 miles and sell it and see how much I can get for it! :p

Somehow I think it would get delivered and you'd just tell them to "put it over there" in disgust and wait for somebody to come along and "take it away". Why do you hate the new cars so much? I mean, it's one thing if they're "not your taste", but to really go out of the way to lambast them? What did they ever do to you? Sheesh...

And while I'm ranting, change your goddam signature. The only thing that statement tells me is Ferry Porsche was awefully narrow minded for an engineer. You better believe if he were alive today he'd be proud as hell of the engineering coming out of Suttgart...in all its forms.

...have a nice day.

Gee Doug, calling me dumb is one thing. But hey, I know your secret dream...like many other guys here, it's to become a member of the "Phay-rows", right? Whoops...wrong movie. Ferry Porsche? "Narrow minded as an engineer"? Perhaps you should study the company's history instead of slamming the one who made it great. The family is no longer involved in the management of the company...the bean counters now rule over the engineers. Why do I dislike the new cars? Because they have become like any other luxury car out there, possibly with less quality than some of the others...added weight and less of a real connection with the driver. For example, a new 997 weighs MORE than the Z-06 'Vette. Doug? would you really call Ferry Porsche a narrow minded engineer? Maybe you should think about who is dumb here. It's not Ferry Porsche, may he rest in peace. BTW, the signature stays...and if you love the new machines so much, why don't you buy one of them? They're being made every day...I choose not to buy one.

I like the Cayman as well. I like the sexy "Ferrari esque" styling. Kinda looks like a mix between a Ferrari 465 and an Audi TT. If I had to pick between an 80's 911 and a Cayman... hmmm... probably the Cayman except with maximum (but not overdone) bling like my 911 has now. No.. I'll get a 997 turbo cabriolet in red. Well, you see what I'm saying, I like the Cayman styling.

The more pictures I see the more I realise I need to refinance my house.

I like it a lot. I hope they sell/lease a million of them this year. That way I can buy a used one for $20k in a couple of years. By then I hoping that someone will have figured out how to swap a Cayenne motor into it :D

Forgive me Ferry Porsche for not making my thoughts clear....The Good Doctor is not a narrow minded engineer, but that statement sure is. I'm surprised he would even say such a thing. A good engineer or designer will rule out nothing until it's been tried and tested. That's being open minded. And in this case, the proof is in the pudding. You may not like them, but the "new" cars are truly great machines. And I still say The Good Doctor would be damn proud of them today.

I've owned two "new" machines. Loved them both. Wish I could afford another. As soon as I can, I will. I promise. And since I'll probably be living in Oregon then, I'll be happy to take you for a ride. (..if you'll take me for a ride in your S.)

And for the record, I'm not trying to say you are dumb, I'm trying to say that not even trying the new cars is dumb. Don't you want to experience as much as possible in life? Why would you not even try the new cars if given the opportunity? Hell, I'd drive any car just for the experience of it. Who cares if I "like" it or not. (..again, the Corvette reference..) Perhaps you're just afraid that you'll like it...which would be just herasy! :p

...have a good day.

Oh, and again for the record, I've been "studying the company's history" since I was 11 years old. (I'm 35 now.) I may not be Carl Ludvigson (?sp), but I'm well aware of what makes Porsches great...

..have a good day.

86 911...that is one hell'va "logo" you got going on there, I cant stop laughing over it.....too much buddy, I love it but then again, I am told I am not "right in the head"...

Another technical clarification:
996 Turbos, GT2 and GT3 have engines based on the 993 case. Therefore they do not suffer from "crank walk" or the rear main seal problem. The oiling system too is a true dry sump and therefore the cams aren't starved for oil when driving hard.

So what are these baby's going to start at $$$??

Will there be a light weight edition for some cup race? Maybe a track version?

Jeff Alton 09-30-2005 01:15 PM

There are lots of people who attack the new designs. That is fine, you probably are not the target market for this car. This car was not designed to lure people who like 911s into buying one. My guess it was created to get some more new buyers. That said, I like the car. The other thing is, how many of the critical folks can actually afford to buy one?

Cheers,

Shuie 09-30-2005 01:16 PM

I cant afford it and I still like it :)

Jeff Alton 09-30-2005 01:22 PM

Me neither, and I like it.

Cheers,

Plavan 09-30-2005 01:41 PM

I can't afford one either, but I'm getting one :)

Jeff Alton 09-30-2005 01:42 PM

That is more like it!

Cheers,
