encounter with a guard rail
My car has recently had an unfortunate encounter with a guard rail. I am not sure exactly what happened, I was accelerating on an on-ramp and the tail came out quite violently, I wasn't really pushing the car so it was completely unexpected, may have been wet pavement or something. In any case, I kept it straight at the cost of rubbing the whole side against a guard rail. What was previously a very fine, rare oak green color(my favorite color), '79 911 sc is now practically junk, I replaced a drive-shaft and the control arm, realigned the front (hopefully nothing is bent) and it seems like the car will drive once I fix the rear wheel but the body is done for good, insurance won't cover it (one way) and I can't afford to fix it. I figure that I will just drive it the way it is (especially because I just completely redid the suspension I cannot dump the car) until I am done with law school and can afford a new Porsche, although I will always miss this one, had it since I was 17. Anyways, I am writting to share my misery with you and also to get advice on where I may be able to find a 9x16 Fuchs wheel. I have looked on e-bay and at junk yards but these seem to be quite rare, does anybody know of a source for these? Also, the rim is bent so that a section of the lip is bent in by about 3/4 of an inch and there is a crack developing under the bend, it won't hold air, I have looked into getting it straightened but the costs don't justify the result $300+. I am located in San Jose - any advice?

I spun my car a few months after I got it in a similar fashion.
I came out with only a dent in the driver front fender. The road was just a touch wet but what I discovered was the rear tires were worn down almost to no tread. The thing was it was only in the center of the tires. The last couple of inches towards the sidewalls still had tread so you really could not tell how worn they were unless you got down really low. Just thought you might have had a similar problem.

Why won't insurance over it?
On the wheel....you're in the Bay area, so call Harvey Weidman in Oroville. If he can't fix it, he might know where you can get a 16x9. It's also worth giving Al Reed a call.

If you can get your fuch fixed/road worthy for $ 300 that is the way to go. I have not seen a 9" fuch for less than $750 for a long time and most are sold in sets of 7's & 9's. Good luck and my sympathies with your situation.
